That is so cool. Didn’t know they had that swim.
Something to think about?

A 10-mile OWS is doable but in 50* water with no wetsuit I would prob be pulled for hypothermia. Personally, I’d rather do the 13.5 mile swim around Key West in 80-ish water:)

Both would be good.
I’ve done Alcatraz on New Year’s Day (many years ago). That was cold!

I’ve never done the race but I have swum that loop that goes around the inner bay. Thirty minutes of swimming was about all I could stand. At 6’2" and 165 I don’t have much insulation:)

I spent alot of time in outer sunset and land’s end as a kid, but could never imagine doing an open water swim out past GGB and around seal rocks. Next time I am in area I’ll try China beach. I really enjoyed the alcatraz swim; going under GGB would be a huge rush.

Also, those swims were about 30 minutes or so with no wetsuit in 57-58* water, and I swam there 4 days during a week out in SF. I did not notice any acclimatization during those 4 swims, but perhaps it takes longer. Really though, if I wanted to be a true OW swimmer, I think I’d prob need to gain about 30 lbs or so:)
