A Yaqui will do that for ya…

Well, they did have THE most perfect conditions ever for this race.

Report I just posted elsewhere:

A beautiful, perfect day for Escape from Alcatraz. Flat water, +5 mph current. First swimmers were out in under 20 minutes. You could have not even used your arms and swam under 30:00. The entire 1,500 field was out in 49 minutes which is amazing (usually there are many people over an hour). No wind on the bike, sunny and warm. Simon Lessing won; Macca second, both breaking the course record. Simon took the lead early in the bike over Craig Walton and never looked back. Kiwi Matt Reed, now racing for the USA, took third. My houseguest Brian Rhodes got bumped by a jet ski during the swim (how, he’s not sure) and had no snap in his legs (well, he just did IM Japan a couple of weeks ago). He was probably in the top 20, but I don’t remember. Michellie Jones won #8, closely followed by Liz Blachford. No other women were remotely close. Post-race party in a couple of hours. Other houseguest Vanessa got to meet Robin Williams (who did the race as the cyclist in a relay with Sian Welch and some Canadian Olympic swimmer) and got her picture taken with him. A fun day and now off to the post-race party!!!

Slowtwitch post-script…
Got to meet Dave from Tokyo and Danielito and Jasper and others. A really great weekend and very nice to put names and faces together. Hope to see Joel S. and crew and Dave at the party. Later…

Pretty sure he is on a Cervelo this year. The flashing Cervelo ad up above would seem to confirm that.

He rode a Yaqui last year it seems.

Oh…my bad. I didn’t see the new ad since Disney. Oh well, this gives me hope, albeit very small, to be the fastest man on a Yaqui.
