Albert (R&A) and I have a money Q to ask you. SIGNUP IS NOW IN THE RIGHT HAND COLUMN!

i want to have a subscription drive. as many of you know, i send out an e-newsletter 2 or 3 times a month to let people know what’s new on slowtwitch. i want to add to that list of people to whom i send this newsletter.

so, i approached albert, and i asked if he’d go in on it with me, and maybe we’d have a 24hr sale, where if you add your email address to our list (whether or not you’re already on our list), it takes you to a place where you see a discount code good for anything online on R&A’s site during a 24 hour period.

of course nobody sees our email list but us, and it only gets used for the newsletters, and the odd email once every three or six months or so for some special reason (some of you got my email on the USAT election resolutions earlier this week).

anyway, so albert says that if this email drive can accrue to HIS list as well, then he’d be disposed to offer a bigger discount, and also offer a raffle, something along the lines of giving away a P3C frame, or Kuota Kalibur frame, or something, to one randomly selected among those who give us their email address during that 24 hour period.

my question is this: what would you rather i do, have this subscription drive be only for email addresses accruing to the slowtwitch list, or would you rather your email be added to albert’s list as well, if i can grind him a bit harder on what he’ll do in exchange for this?

of course, in any case any email we send out will have an auto-unsubscribe utility, as we already do, and i would imagine R&A has the same. that established, people are still funny about what happens to their email addresses, so i still feel obliged to ask what you all would prefer.

btw, if it turns out that most people prefer to have their email addresses added to both our lists, this will not affect those who’re already on the slowtwitch list. if you sign up AGAIN, then you’d be on both lists. if you don’t, you’d still simply remain on our list.

So long as getting value (like a better discount) I vote to allow him access.

I get so much junk e-mail each day, might as well get the chance to win a bike and get some e-mail I actually read at the same time, plus I need to pick up a few things so a 24 hour discount would be nice. I have no problems with either option.

Mike

I’d vote for #2 - being added to both list for a bigger discount. (What can I say? I’m cheap.)

Steve

Agree.

List #2. I like discounts and tri related info.

Same here, list 2.

Junk mail I might actually read, plus a discount. I am in!

I appreciate you asking.

Both lists are fine with me as well.

Definitely, let 'er rip on the full monty. It’s easy enough to get email addresses anyway.

Chris

option #2
.

The R&A thing is fine with me. Already on the ST list but not on R&A’s but if I’d ever bought anything from there I’m guessing I probably would be given the number of mailing lists that I’m on after buying something (I know you can opt out but, hey, I’m lazy).

One question I have and I can’t be bothered to do any research right now - is there a ST discount code for R&A already? A special 24 hour discount that’s essentially the same wouldn’t really shake things up. These promotions don’t always end up much cheaper than buying locally by the time you factor shipping in but that’s less of an issue for those folks without a decent tri shop within 10 minutes of their house.

I like the idea of the raffle.

Option 2…I have no problem being on email lists associated with the industry. Especially is potential swag is involved!

Slowman, I have no problem being on both lists…#2 sounds fine to me.

Interesting concept. Personally, I trust Dan with my email address more than I trust an “outside” company. But if the discount were really good, I could care less.

I do not have an issue with being on both lists (especially if there is a potential bigger discount and sweet raffle).

Cheers,
Fred.

I am ok with either option. #2 is preferred.

JV

If all my good friends in Nigeria can get my e-mail address, why not Albert as well. #2.

“is there a ST discount code for R&A already?”

i don’t know of one. i’ll inquire.

I am good with option #2.
Thanks for asking.

Dan,
I am fine with option 2, but how difficult would it be to give someone the option to skip the R&A list and not get the discount?
