Grabbing the top of my seat if you are sitting behind me- don’t do it. I don’t like a giant hand above my head.
I agree with this strongly but I think people do it because they are out-of-shape (or just old, lol) and physically unable to get up and out of their seat without doing so.
Oh I get that if someone is older and needs to grab on to the top of my seat briefly. I don’t like it but it’s usually not a huge deal for me. It’s the big guy who rests his hand there for a while. It just feels creepy. When someone is in my space like that, I can almost feel it. I’m also kind of hypersensitive to stuff like that. I wish I could be more like my husband who just tunes everything out. I do try to be more zen but it lasts for like 10 minutes if someone is doing something on the “no no” list
I have known people who viewed their frequent flyer status as a measure of professional success. To me, it was the opposite. When you’re really important, people fly to see you.
So true.
Just before Covid started I was in line to board my flight home from Vegas. 2 guys behind me in line were talking about their upgrades and “status” rather loudly and drew others into the discussion. I got tired of the noise and ask the group - Am I the only one that paid for my seat? One other guy said Nope - me too, and then the conversation died.
I havnt had any issues on a plane in a long time. My travel issues generally come before or after:
at baggage dont stand right around the carousel. No one can see that way.
people asking if they can cut in the security line because they are going to be late. Everyone knows how long it is to the airport. Everyone knows the routine. Show up early. 3) I generally fly southwest. You can pay to get on the plane before others. Some times A) people hold seats for 2 people at the front of the plane. You cant hold seats for an entire row. If you want to hold seats, you can hold really only the middle seat. B) if you are going to attempt to hold the middle seat, hold it at the back of the plane.
This was me on my last trip with the family. I have early boarding as a company perk but unfortunately it does not apply to all tickets. I went back past the exit rows because I wasn’t going to sit up front and keep telling people the seats were saved. That is annoying as hell.
My preferred solution to this problem has been to book separate flights. One for my wife and daughter. And one for me the next day. I use the excuse that I have to later because of a work appointment. I don’t always get to do this, but airports (bars) are so much better when you’re by yourself.
7.Hold in your flatulence. If you need to let rip, go to the bathroom. No one wants to sit next to your death smell.
Sorry to disappoint you, but airplane farts aren’t going anywhere. It’s just the physics of the cabin pressure.
Can you elaborate? I thought we learned from Covid that air flows toward the intake vents that are low and on the fuselage. Would have thought a fart flowed the same way. So, if you are already by the window and have the overhead outflow air vent going full blast, your fart would mostly go down (away from noses) and out. Of course, I would never do such a thing on a plane. Just trying to understand the physics.

It’s just the fact that the air pressure in the cabin decreases as you go up, and the air inside your body expands, and needs to get out. Where it goes once it leaves your body is a different story. I was just commenting on the desire for people to just hold it in.
The passenger in front of me should not recline their seat.
As a passenger, I have the right to recline my seat.
I listen to a legal podcast. They had property law experts on. The seat recline issue is a property law issue that the airlines know the answer to, but will not disclose to passengers because it’s in the airlines’ best interest to allow the passengers to settle it. And, even though sometimes the “settle it” process can be quite volatile, airlines will not intervene with the true property rights answer.

I once had to fly back from San Jose to JFK on a red eye. It was a work event maybe 7 years ago. So I didn’t have my husband to shield me from other humans on the plane. My company flew me coach too. I had a window seat and the two seats next to me on my right were this elderly couple who only spoke Chinese FWIW. One of them had the worst gas I’ve ever experienced. It was like rotting cabbage. I was actually getting nauseous as it lasted quite a while on the 5 or 6 hr flight. Horrible. Absolutely horrible. I didn’t say anything. I mean, what could I do?
There are terrible things on a flight like bad gas or a screaming infant that sometimes can’t be controlled. But there are many things that can be avoided just out of basic politeness and consideration.
Like someone said, flying is cheap and it’s really no better than any other public transportation. People are going to be people…
Do not bring food on the plane and start eating it as you sit two inches from me. I don’t want to smell your tuna salad sandwich or hear you eating. Unless your flight is over 3 hours, its only nuts or small snacks, keep it simple and no smelly food.
come on. I was on planes today and had enough time between getting off one flight and onto another to use the bathroom and that was it. I wish I’d had time to get a sandwich or something (though I was getting airsick so maybe good that I didn’t). Sometimes you have to eat on a plane.
yes tuna salad is unkind but if other peoples’ eating noises bother you -and I have misophonia so I get that this is a thing - put in some headphones or earplugs.
I flew cross country twice last weekend and a few things I have always noticed while flying are starting to be pet peeves of mine that bug me as I get older. Not enough to really complain ( other than on here) but most likely will make a smart ass comment and laugh at the people doing these things.
A few things that need to change in Airports and on Planes:
Can we not dress like we just got out of bed? And for god sake, put on some deodorant.
When standing at the gate ready to board your flight, why are you standing up and lining up as soon as they start boarding if you are in boarding group ZZ. You aren’t getting on for a while, so have a seat and stop clogging the gate area while those in earlier groups are boarding.
If you have the middle seat, you get the armrests…period, end of story.
Don’t play your music, movies, etc without headphones.
Never Never Never remove your shoes on a plane unless you have socks on. People don’t need to see and smell your stinky feet.

Don’t talk to me if it’s clear I am not interested.
LAST AND PROBABLY BIGGEST PET PEEVE:
When we have landed and are at the gate, for the love of GOD, do not stand up in the aisle and try to cut in front of people ahead of you. You will get off the plane when it is your turn, no need to stand and act impatient when we will still have ten minutes before we can move anywhere. ( unless you are hustling for a connecting flight, then ask to go ahead, but don’t lie about this as that is an asshole move).
What other air travel issues do you have?
I usually fly very early or late at night, I am rolling into or out of bed.
Im the guy doing calisthenics and moving around, I am about to sit for 3-6 hours
Fair
Fair
I go shoeless with or without socks, feet don’t smell. It’s actually better without socks for me
I bring all my food and drink. Usually jerky and trail mix. I do not share
I rip them, they don’t smell
Smile!
I always side aisle, I stand but never cut people off. See #2
I will wear whatever makes me feel most comfortable on a flight. I will be courteous, I won’t affect anyone else and I won’t bother what anyone I don’t know thinks of me. Sort of like how I try and behave all the time.
So you bring smelly food and** food that the people around you may be allergic to**?
This is an odd notion to me. To even think or have expectation that people would choose the food they eat or carry because someone in the general public might be allergic to.

Interesting, I wouldn’t have ever thought about someone being allergic to nuts if I brought them on the plane as a snack.
One thing to add about food. We have brought plain bagels and have even made PB&J for long flights as they are non-smelly foods. We have brought prepared meals on board if I forgot to notifiy the airline we are vegan on a long haul flight (rare for us). But if I bring something that might have a distinct aroma, I would eat it when everyone else is eating their warm meals (which are also kind of smelly) as it will just blend in. You have to package it well and keep it wrapped so it doesn’t smell beforehand. I don’t think I’ve ever brought anything truly “smelly” or offensive as I wouldn’t like it myself and am also conscious of others around me within the confinement of a plane. It’s more of a “just do the best you can” with food and try to think of others around you. And try to bring food that is not messy as well. We don’t want another incident like the last thread where the baseball player’s wife had to clean up after her children.
Protein and meal bars and dried fruit are what I brought on my last flight going to a triathlon and trying to stay properly hydrated and fueled.
One thought is that airlines could start sharing and putting out codes of etiquette on a flight. Seems like common sense but so many people can’t seem to be good passengers or decent human beings when flying. Often adults are no better than children on flights it seems. When you purchase a ticket, maybe you also get a list of good etiquette practices and a code of conduct via email or on your airline app. A reminder to be kind and considerate to those inches from you. Not sure if it would prevent all the “No Nos” but any bit of improvement when flying would be very welcomed.
Does anyone here fly on chartered flights or some of the cheaper private options like Wheels UP? I don’t fly enough to seek out these options but just curious if anyone has found some clever ways to fly in style other than first class on a regular flight. Sometimes even First Class has its problems, but 10x better than coach.

It’s a common concern these days, with so many people having nut allergies. The flight attendants may say not to eat nuts, so it’s better to bring something else with you.
