Air Canada Centre & Toronto in general

Can someone talk me through the seating chart for a Leafs game? I’m going to Toronto this weekend for my bachelor send-off and was thinking about scoring some tickets to the Leafs/Habs tilt. When I see tickets listed on craigslist/stubhub/etc, it’s unclear to me which are obstructed view and/or standing room only. I don’t want to pay $100 per ticket to stand behind a lumberjack - I’m short and would get my ass kicked.

I guess I’m looking for the cheapest couple of sections that will get me a seat without a pole or drunk canuck in the way.

Also, never been to Toronto. Can anyone suggest some great food/great scotch collections? A recent thread here threw out Le Papillion and Canoe and I’ve heard about ?C’est What?

Also also: architecture. I know shit about it, but I love cool older architecture. I’ll be sure to hit the CN tower too, but other than that where do I go?

Thanks
-Donald

If you can find a Leafs ticket for $100 snatch it up.

Unless you are willing to pay upwards to $250 or you know someone who knows someone who has killed someone for their tickets, you aren’t going to pay much less than that for anything significantly “good”.

Can’t help with ACC. No idea. Sorry.

C’est What? is a bar. Haven’t been there in years, but it wasn’t all that great when I did go.

Food suggestions: Chinatown (Spadina & Dundas), Canoe, Splendido, lots of great restaurants along Queen West, Danforth for Greek food (open late)

City sights: Forget the CN Tower. Way over-priced and not worth it. Check out St. Lawrence Market, Distillery District, Kensington Market, Queen St. West, AGO (redesign of the AGO is supposed to be really stunning), ROM (even just to drive past the crystal is kinda cool), Queen’s Quay used to have some nice shops, but I haven’t been there in a while, Yorkville

Architecture: AGO and ROM, University of Toronto, Old City Hall, Provincial Legislature Building

Have fun!

What kind of food do you like to eat?

I guess the CN tower is neat - I dunno, it’s just a tall tower.

I’d consider checking out different areas of the city - wandering around Chinatown and Kensington Market (easily reachable by walking or transit - just go to Dundas and Spadina and explore), or Little Italy (College Street west of Bathurst)…Little Italy can get a bit full but is still a nice place to wander on a nice day. Queen Street west of Trinity Bellwoods Park is nice as well. All those areas are within or easily reachable from the core.

It is, but the views are stunning. Before Google Maps/Earth, this was as good as it got and it was real. I have always been into maps and geting up high where ever I am and seeing what a place really looks like and the CN Tower gave you that sort of view.

The line-ups can be huge and going up and down can take up the better part of a day, so if going, plan accordingly.

I eat just about anything. I lived in NYC for quite a while and live just outside it now, so I have access to any cuisine I want. I guess I’m looking for standouts, regardless of “type”. I really dig non-westernized Korean and Thai, classic french, southern italian, and greek/turkish/mediterranean.

By neighborhood, I’m staying at the Fairmont in the financial district and plan to wander the distillery district.

Well, I guess that answers that! I was seeing pairs of tickets on craigslist for ~300-400. I guess those are SROs.

I don’t need “good”, just not obstructed and not standing. Nosebleeds are fine. Greatest game I ever saw live was corner, second row from the top for a Devils stanley cup finals game. Could hardly see when action was on the far side of the ice, but it was AWESOME.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I’ll check it all out!

I just looked at the weather… I’m a fan of the real view from on high, but I don’t think I’m gonna get it. Dawn left tons of other suggestions, so I think I’ll get to see a lot from ground level.

Best Thai food I’ve ever had:

For good Korean food you could go to Koreatown - take the subway to Christie station (Bloor and Christie) and explore the area (head east from the station). If you head west from the station there are several Ethiopian restaurants - my favourite is Lalibela on the south side. Great food, cheap, and in terms of authenticity every time I’m there (I used to live around the corner) there’s lots of Ethiopians and East Africans eating there.

The salad King:

you want some spicy Thai…go there. It is SO good and inexpensive. Well worth it.

If you want a fun sporting event and don’t want to drop $300/ticket, check out a Rock game. It’s affordable and a hell of a lot of fun!

They play tonight.

Much more exciting than a leaf game. In fact the Toronto FC are playing this Saturday as well.

i work across the street from the royal york (fairmont) and we’re having an after work pint @ piper’s, a bar in the basement so i thought of this thead.

they’ve got a bunch of single malts - 10 to 18 yrs - I don’t know scotch from a hole in the ground but you might want to check out there or the library bar upstairs.

slowtwich rises to the occasion once again! Thanks for the tip.

I know hotel bars can be kind of cheesy but the Royal York has some nice ones.

From what I remember: a 16 yr old Lagaluvin (sp?), some Macallans, different Glens, something that started with a T… (can you tell I don’t know Scotch, LOL)

And hey, if you (or anyone else in Toronto!) wants to run an 8k race 10am Saturday…let me know, my friend is injured and her chip is for the taking

“the Royal York has some nice ones”

Stayed there for a few years in a row for Molson Indy weekends in the late 80’s or early 90’s. Not ever as good as the F1 in Montreal, but Toronto isn’t as good as Montreal period. But the Royal York did (does) have some good bars. Those were the days. Wish I could afford it now. Or maybe my priorities just changed.
