Very nice to see an organizer testing AG’s.
Not an issue for Roth, but I think all IM’s should test the Hawaii-qualified in addition to some random testing.
intersting,is there any link in english or somebody can translate?

great idea. then entry fees can be even higher.
Here is a translation of the “highlights.”
Quelle Challenge Roth testing, Pros negative but one AG athlete tests positive.
The German Anti Doping Commission (ADK) of the German Triathlon Union (DTU) has opened a case after a recent discover at the German long Distance Championships in Roth Germany. The athlete in question has been informed and did not request a B sample.
The Roth organizer Walchshoefer then said that they are proud that in addition to the mandatory testing of the top eight men and women, they also test 10 age groupers which means ay of the 2500 starters could theoretically be tested.

You’re right… an extra 10 bucks will make the majority of IM’ers bankrupt.
Better that we continue to allow Joey Nextdoor all the EPO he can inject.
okay, first off, in competition testing is pretty much worthless if you’re interested in catching those using the most effective products available today. so even if you think age group drug testing is a good idea, you are just throwing your money away.
perhaps more importantly, age group triathlon is recreation. who the hell really cares if someone else decides to use drugs. that’s their deal. it doesn’t take anything away from you. and yes, that includes qualifying for hawaii. someone else using drugs is not the limiting factor in you getting that spot.

I agree that AG triathlon is recreation and that we probably shouldn’t care if others are using drugs. I don’t understand your reasoning in your final statement. If two athletes train just as hard and intelligently, isn’t the guy using the effective drugs going to have an advantage? If not, why do we care whether pros are using drugs?
Sad, but as the guy before me said, it’s not that big a deal. I’m not in this for money and I feel that other AGer’s drug use doesn’t substantially lessen my chances of getting a win in something. I’ve not yet been in a race (albeit, all local sprints) that I saw a person who beat me and felt they were on another plain that I could not get onto if I could train enough. If somebody else has to use drugs to get the edge to beat me, great that’s an honour
I won’t know, of course, but they will suspect that they only edged out because they’re injecting and I’m clean as a whistle!
Exept that it costs a lot more then $10. I remember looking at WADA’s financials a few years ago. Total Testing Expenses divided by number of tests gave something in the range of $800 per test if I remember right (that of course incldues legal fees, lab fees, etc…)

First off let me preface what i’m about to type by saying i’m cranky.
What he is saying is that 98% of all AGers suck too much to qualify for IMH irregardless of who is using drugs.

Well, it never helped anyone going up against Lance. ![]()

2000 + AGers per NAS IM x $10 ea = $20,000+
$20,000+ = 25 tests for AGers (32 for races like IMoo with 2600+)
$800/test
With the way people talk about money on this forum, $30 extra here, $40 extra there, $1400 for a disk, yada, yada, yada, an additional $10 more per entry would go along way to testing a lot of AGers per race.
Not that I am in favor of increased fees, but it seems that doping in the AG ranks is a reality. I have nothing to lose by AG testing, other than ten bucks, but potentially quite a bit to gain.

FYI “irregardless” is not really a word.

Not everyone’s goal is to get an age group slot in Hawaii. Not everyone views the sport as “how it effects ME”
Cost to test 10 athletes at $800 each spread out over 1800 paid entries is $4.45.
Yes it is a recreational sport and only egos are involved. All the more reason it should be kept honest.
Its use is becoming more and more standard as evidenced by its inclusion in most modern dictionaries.

If they test age groupers what will make them positive? It seems that it would be alot to expect for age groupers not to be able to eat or tkae anything that might give them a positive. Pro’s have to be so very careful. Many things can cause them to show a positive. I just would not want to come up positive for something I knew nothing about. It seems you have to almost have a a medical degree to stay on top of what you can and can’t take. Example poppy seeds etc.
I’d rather catch some vs. none and would gladly “throw away” 10$ per IM for that purpose.
I’ve blown 10 bucks on far dumber things.

OK, it makes sense if Brent knows Slayer sucks too much to qualify for IMH – drugs or not.
