Age group nationals location

How long are they going to be held in Shreveport? Anyone know where there going to after that?

This is the final year in Shreveport. USAT is looking at sites for next year’s nationals. I believe the Rochester, NY was one of the sites they were looking at, but I do not think they have made a decision. Z

a decision hasn’t been made yet, at least not publically. Rochester I believe was one of the finalist, as well as Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

I vote for rochester because I could drive there in few hours and have a free place to stay.

Rochester, NY also has the advantage of having an excellent local promoter to host the event, Yellow Jacket Racing.

they also have some damn fast masters athlete’s.

When are they going to bring Nationals back to the area with the greatest density of athletes, the West coast? It’s too bad we lost the Mission Viejo venue. That was a great course.

Nationals were out west two years ago in Coeur d’ Alene for two years. The east has not had nationals since Florida in 1998! Z

Coeur d’ Alene?!?! Silly there is only one west coast, California.

Well - let’s say west of the Mississippi! Z

When the committee is picking the site for the USAT Age Group Championship how much consideration is given to the upcoming World Championship race. Given that the USA has enough geographic diversity to replicate or at least come close to matching any Worlds venue - wouldn’t it make sense to select a National championship race with conditions very similar to the World championship race?

Just a thought, but it seems logical that if you know Worlds is going to be a hilly technical bike course you would seek out venues that would reward athletes that can excel under those conditions. Similarly, if Worlds were being held on a course reputed to be flat and fast you would conduct Nationals on such a course.

How much lead time is there? How far in advance are World Championships awarded? Is this type of planning and event coordination even possible?

My guess is that that would be hard to do since they have been spending two years at each new nationals location. They did seem to use that criteria in selecting Menomonie as the additional World’s qualifier last year, but they only have those races when one is needed due to the timing of worlds. Obviously, they didn’t have an additional qualifier for Portugal.

As I understand it…the date for 2005/2006 (with priotiy for August) was determined by the worlds proposed for October 2005. August in Rochester or Tusculoosa?

Isn’t Shreveport west of the Mississippi?
