There is a male and female Champion for each of the five-year age group bands. There is a race “winner” (the male and female with the fastest time) but I’ve never heard that person called the “US National Champion”.
It’s basically a money grab, they would make qualifying harder if it was a true National race.

How does making a race harder to qualify for affect the level of competition at the pointy end of the field? In your mind, what should the number of athletes in each division be…10? 50, 100? and give the rational for that number.
IMO, the race serves two purposes…The first is to offer the fastest men and women in their respective age groups a chance to race each other and to crown a national champion.
The second is to offer competitors a chance to race at a first class national event and support their NGB.
I agree, but it leave me wondering where is the U.S. national champion crowned? If it’s not AG Nationals, where is it done?

Because it is a Triathlon national championship. The Aquabike national championship is in Miami. Same with Duathlon, Long Course, Offroad, etc. all being separate events

The Multisport Championships are the equivalent for Aquabike, Aquathlon, Long Course triathlon and Long Course Duathlon.

Pretty sure they get a Jersey that says national champion, if they do it for the off-road race I can’t see them not doing it for the non draft race.
