After 9 seasons of poor swim technique

I can’t believe it took me this long but I’ve finally arranged one on one sessions with a swim coach, tired of working hard and reinforcing bad form I couldn’t even bring myself to getting in the water the last 3 months. Hopefully I can shed my bad habits and see improvement in 2012, anyone here had success after years of bad swim technique?

Yes. I had ~4 years of crap before hiring a coach. Only 2-3 sessions, and pretty much everything was fixed well enough so that workouts were actually productive. In just a few months jumped from the 2nd-slowest masters lane to the 2nd-fastest (not sure I’ll ever get in there with the ex-NCAA swimmers). The coach matters, though. Mine was really good. Didn’t just stand on deck, but jumped in and swam on her back underwater beneath me, and worked with me in the water adjusting my catch, etc. No drills, just removing the BS from my stroke - every time I regressed she’d slap me from underwater. (on the arm). Very hands-on, and it worked for me.

Edited - Sounds awesome, trail!! I need a coach like that as I am super slow with probably a ton of bad swim techniques. Whereabouts are you and how did you find her?

Where are you located?

You should have responded to “trail” not the OP.

I know. Sorry, my mistake. Oops!
