Can’t afford to break the bank(not fast enough anyway). Not really interested in a canned program, want some interaction. Looking for some recs. Thanks.
We have various training plans that my partner and I create individually for all of our athletes. We’re based out of New York and Philadelphia. Check them out at www.TriBy3.com or send me a PM and we can talk!
“Triathletes Training Bible” Joe Friel + “Your Best Triathlon” by Joe Friel + Training Peaks Premium Account … Your cheapest route, plus you will learn more than a lot of the “cheap” coaches.
Another book to add to your ‘arsenal’ “Racing Weight” by Matt Fitzgerald
Actually instead of Triathlates training bible - try phil skibba’s books - or if you are good at taking information and withdrawing the principals of the information and reapplying the principals elsewhere:
Daniels Running Formula

JF isn’t worthless, just much better places to spend your money.
Or just pay for a coach.
i will take a look at those books. Thanks for sharing. Always looking for different approaches.
Where do you draw the line between affordable and unaffordable? Some good coaches are out there who only charge $125-$150 a month for the interaction you are looking for. Is that breaking the bank?
I’m very happy with my coach, Kevin Joubert. He has very reasonable pricing and nice plans. There is a good scientific basis for his training plans and my plans are definitely not cookie cutter. My own results have been good, I moved from MOP to FOP on 10-12 hours per week of training. PM me if you have more questions.
I’ve had great success with Daniel Bretscher. Smart, communicative and has a great feel for what’s needed to continually move you forward over the long haul…

Endurance Nation.
Online, very well thought out plans, responsive coaches and input and feedback from serious, polite, sincere, knowledgeable and experienced peeps; from Kona vets to mop age groupers. Lots of resources for members. Nice little tri community they got going on.
I got to train under him free (Daniel) for a month and he seems to have the best interaction to value that you will prolly find.
x2 on Endurance Nation. Have improved my bike FTP 50% and my vdot for the run by 11 points using their plans.

Ditto, especially the Dr. Phil books. He posts here under the moniker of Philbert.
perhaps we can work together. Not canned, unlimited interaction.

I used Jeff Cuddeback in 2008. He’s a GREAT coach. Extremely knowledgeable in all aspects of the sport (training, rest, recovery, nutrition, injury rehab, injury prevention, periodization, and keeping things in perspective - life balance). Very reasonably priced also.

Good luck !!
Is it kosher to plug CoachMe Triathlon on here?
I have no affiliation with them, except that they tried to hire me…obviously the quality of the coaching is going to be highly individually dependent…

Whoah. Over how long a period?
One year. I started last November with a FTP of 227 and now it is 325. Same for the run. Took a lot of hard work and several puke enduring sessions, but it has paid off. I did not have a long history in endurance training so I sure don’t expxt those type of results next year. If I can improve my FTP by 10% in 2012 I’ll be pretty happy.
x2 on Skibba’s books. And the RaceDay software he developed is excellent.
