Aerobottle and bike handling

Anyone have experience with an aerobottle affecting handling of the bike?

It makes my bike twitchy. I can live with it though.

Along with the slight twitchiness some people seem to thing it causes some handling problems on climbs but I don’t think either is a significant issue. Not in my experience anyway.

It has been horribly windy here the last couple weeks. Plenty of rides in crosswinds of 30+ mph and plenty gusty. Every ride has been on a steep angled tri bike with a Profile aerodrink. I have not experienced any handling problems or, in fact, even noticed any effect whatsoever from the bottle.

(I’m 6’1" and 165lbs riding a steep tri bike with box rims for training)

I use the profile bottle. Never noticed it much. I noticed more effect from wind on a front Hed Jet 60 than with a aero bottle.

I use the profile bottle, and I have had NO difference handling in crosswinds with or without the bottle.

Now your fork or wheels may make a difference. I switched to the new Easton EC-90 Aero fork, and crosswinds do grab that a little harder than the QR Carbonaero fork that came stock on the bike.

Never noticed it being there. Zero handling effect.

I use the Profile Aerodrink bottle and do not notice and handling problems whatsoever.

I’ve expereienced none to date with the Profile bottle.

On that bottle, has anyone come up with a better way of keeping the drink IN the bottle? That netting doesn’t seem to be that effective. I’m now using a cut out piece of sponge tucked into the top but of course when trying to refill on the run you require two hands…one to hold the sponge and the other to pour.

I couldn’t figure out the nylon-rope-thing to keep the water in. I ended up using, then buying an extra foam block from a JetStream NXT.

Take that yellow “string” and stretch it out. It is a net cylinder about 4’ long. Now roll it up onto itself, similar to how some people roll up their clean socks. When you are done, you’ve got a ball shape that is the perfect fit and lets water through better than a sponge.
