Aerobic threshold determination

What is the best way to determine your aerobic threshold on the run and bike? Do you use a % of the CP test for the bike or Friel’s heart rate %, for the run. I need help. Thank you.

Good discussion and other tips.

I agree with Julian - Gordo explains it best. And remember “don’t over think it”.

To determine aerobic, anaerobic, performance or any other thresholds, I would recommend you think of how important your goals or training is to you. If you are looking at doing this for fun, then any predicted equations are fine. However, if you are a little more serious about your training, I would say to have a direct assessment done.

I’ve been involved in cycling and triathlon for years. For many of these years, I was using alot of predicted formulaes. About 3 years ago I approached a company that use a more scientific approach to designing training plans and determining training thresholds. I’ve never been faster. I also benefit from their education as this helps me be more of a critical thinker when it comes to training.

All this being said; I suggest you search for a sport science center that you trust and has alot of experience working with elite athletes
