What would be the best aerobar setup for a roadbike without changing the geometry? I have a specialized tarmac and planning to use it during an olympic race and I need someting that I can go aero on the flats.
I have tried simulating the aero position on the computrainer and feels somewhat comfortable, not as comfy as my tri bike though. But it didn’t seem that I lost any power. Would I be better without them or should I get one of those shorty ones?
I tried putting Vision Pros on my Cannon and the top tube was WAY too long (56mm where as my tri frame is a 54mm)
I quickly took them off and just went into the drops when I needed to get aero
.
LOL mine is the opposite
Road bike 54 Tri bike 56! But I ride the tri bike in the forward position saddle is really steep when you compare to the road bike.
Oval Concepts A700SLAM.
HED Flip-lites are amazing for a road bike. The brackets flip up out of the way and they are light. The elbow pads are very low as well.
The other option that I have tried and liked very much was the Oval A910’s. Again very light but the elbow pads are fixed but right against the handlebars.
Both are very light options and will be very nice on a road bike.
Cheers.

i have the Hed bars and you can flip them up and out of the way. love them. And when i let friends try out my bike they really like them.
just my 2 cents.
black,
bski’s desription is typical for many who try to put aerobars on a road bike. They discover their top tube is way too long and they are too stretched out to either be comfortable or be able to breath properly.
Try some Profile Jammer GT aerobars. They will allow you to “shorten” your “cockpit” without changing your stem or your seat post. The forearm pads and bars will move independently fore and aft of each other and the base bar/handlebar. This set-up will permit you to effectively shorten your top tube and achieve an aero position without getting too stretched out.
The aluminum versions are about $80 and the carbon (bling) version is about $140. If there is an REI store near by you may be able to pick them up there. They have a very liberal return policy so that if you decide that thhey won’t get the job done, you can still return them for a full refund.
Good luck.
Any of the shorter road specific aero bars will work. It’s a personal preference. If you’re not a small size rider you might also try the small size Syntace C2’s.
We’ve been selling an aerobar that has been a huge success for doing exactly what you are asking for:

There is some discussion regarding these bars here:

I race DUs on a roadbike, and am often taking the bars off, since I do alot of road racing/crits. I have the vision tech Pro R-bend slip ons, they’ lengthen the reach alot, but are designed to be cut-off to the appropriate lenght that you need. Just know that you’ll need to move your cycle computer, as they are designed to be mounted flush to the stem, which will give you the best grip, and firmest lock.
How about getting a Profile design fast forward seatpost?
My experience was that the Profile fast forward post put me too far forward and changed the handling characteristics to dramatically. A neutral post giving maximum 75/76 effective seat tube worked better.
those felt bars look very nice
how do I get some ?
Thanks Thom
