Aerobars again

Looking to upgrade from Profile cow horns (alu) and Carbon stryke bars. What are peoples thoughts on:-

  1. Bontrager carbon aerobars

  2. Oval A900 bars

  3. New profile T2 clip ons with easton delta force base bar (or VT?). These do seem a little heavy though…

  4. Other options?

For me the bars have to do it all. I have to be able to climb on them, use them on flat courses, hilly courses. Totally confused by the choices. Any feedback appreciated.

As user of Carbon X, Hed (s), Profile T2 and Syntace…

My vote is T2 base and aerobars.

Sweet. I just ordered my new Guru with a Profile DesignT2 base bar and Carbon Stryke aerobars.

I was in the same boat you’re in … looking to upgrade bars … until I finally placed an order a couple of days ago. What finally did it for me was getting to a tri-shop that had a lot of the stuff I was seeing on the internet. Getting to actually see the stuff in person really changed my perspective. For example, in your option 3) you ask about the Easton Delta Force base bar and ask if that might be part of a heavy combination. If you’re talking about the carbon bar, I’ve never seen a product before in my life that I’d be more inclined to lump into the “stupid light” category. I went to that store expecting to buy that base bar. I didn’t. I couldn’t see where it would improve my aerodynamics and it was so ridiculously light I couldn’t see putting my weight on it when I needed to be out of the saddle. (I’m sure I’m probably wrong and it’s entirely suited for its purpose. I just couldn’t see it.) On the other hand, the FSA/Vision products I saw seemed quite aerodynamic and seemed to be light, but solid. I finally went with an alloy FSA basebar with the new carbon r-bend clip-on. I looked at the OVAL and the HED integrated bars. They were sweet, but just more expensive than I could justify. I had to order the FSA stuff. Don’t have it yet, so I don’t really know how it’s gonna work out.

Good luck.

Go Vision Tech, Oval or Hed…

You could avoid spending $600-700 on aerobars and get some A700 for $300 or Visiontech integrated pros for $250 and then spend the extra money on a more useful training tool like a powertap or powercranks or rotorcranks (assuming you don’t already have these).

Psycholist, how do you like the FSA carbon R-bend. I am looking at this aerobar for my next purchase. I have the Delta base bar and love it. I got it for $50.00 more than the FSA base bar. Great deal.

R-bends ROCK!!!

3 five hour rides and although there is a little bit of getting used to it… the leverage and positioning blow away traditional aero extensions.
