would you go with the HED carbon bars or the visiontech basebar and clipons (for those who have actually used them or have them?)
.
Whem money is no object, the most expensive is always the best…
Ha HA! Spoke like a true smartass-coach. Seriously though, since there is no where in the nearby area I can look at these bars I am not sure which one to go with. For those who have seen the vision clipon combo, can you get as low as you can with a single piece bar?
Based on what little I know about aerobars, I’d go with the HED’s. But money were really no object, I’d probably look into the new Easton one piece carbon bars. Now those are sexy.

The bars that the world TT champion uses even when not sponsored should be the best ![]()

If money is no object!!!..hmmmmmmmm
Call Lance and offer him a good amount for his newest aerobars ![]()

I would pay Bunnyman a million dollars to fit me and build a custom set for me.
Okay, okay, I get it. Seriously, are there any factors other than cost that would make you lean toward one or the other ie, adjustability, particularly with length, ability to trim ends to reduce curve etc.
I am a huge fan of the new profile SONIC Strykes! Best I’ve ever used.
Easton.
Pretty, but unadjustable, plus the upward bend is way too much for me. I have a slight negative ulnar variance and the most comfortable position for my hand on a bar is with the wrist angled in ulnar deviation such that the thumb metacarpal is in a direct line with the radius. I know this is counter to what is considered 'more aerodynamic" ala last weeks post on the subject, but it is more a question of fit and comfort in my case.
Really? You like them better than the HED bars and the vision clipon/basebar? How adjustable are they in comparison?
Ditto Easton. I’ve had a pair that I got stupidly cheap but even at full retail, these are amazing bars–however they have to fit you as they are not adjustable except for the pads width-wise. I’m a big guy, and I can bend the crap out of aluminum bars–these are rock solid. Better for climbing than the HEDS, but probably not as aerodynamic (which I question anyway as all that air is going to hit your body 24 inches later anyway). Finish work is superb. Only complaint is with the grips–wish they came in different colors–and the installation–seriously a bitch to put together.
there’s no question in my mind. If money were no object, I would get the Easton’s. Why? I have not really been a big fan of the HED’s or Profile’s or VT’s. Not for any performance related reason, I am sure they are all great bars, and my be better, or not better than the Eastons. But in just looking at them all, to me the Eastons look the best and let’s face it, I am sure they all preform relatively close to each other. I can honestly say that the only thing preventing me from getting a pair of the Easton bars is the price, but by mid summer I am sure I will justify a way to spend the money on a pair.
I will pay slowman 500 bucks to certify me on his FIST program then pay him 2k to custom build you a bike.
I will only charge you a half million!
Forget the $$$ aspect. . .Here’s a couple of questions. . .Is this going to be your ONLY bike? Will you be riding it for any appreciable time out of the aero position?
If this is your ONLY bike. . .then stick with the VisionTechs. Do you spend a lot of time on your TT bike OUT of the aero position? Then stick with the VisionTechs. I have the Hed bars and I can tell you that they are great for the aero position. Lots of adjustability lets you really dial in the position. BUT. . .you don’t want these bars if you are going to really need to spend time out of the aero position. They just aren’t comfortable for that. Braking is fine in all conditions. But 10 or 15 minutes spinning on the horns will really start to dig into your hands. The Hed bars are for going fast. . . that’s it. I own a road bike as well as my TT bike so I have a comfy bike for those slower, longer rides out of the aero position. Back when I only had one tri-bike, the Heds just wouldn’t have been optimal.
Hey Ya’ll,
What about the carbon Oval bars?
I’ve seen a pair of these and they appear to be quite sweet:
