My Trek E7 650c with Profile T2+, stem length 9 cm
The armrests are about 5-6 cm. (center-center) behind basebar so that my upper arms are almost perpendicular to the ground. And I feel comfortable that way.
Is there anything wrong with that?
I’m 170 cm. My E7 is 52 size. My torso, arms and legs length are normal.
If I get a shorter cockpit bike and have armrests above the basebar, will the weight distribution be too far forward?
That sounds pretty good to me as far as arm rest placement. However you need to look at the aerobar/arm rest/extensions/stem as one piece as you’re actually looking at where the arm rests are relative to the head tube or relative to the front axle of the bike. I personally run my arm rests about 3cm or so center to center behind what would be my base bar (I’m running HED integrated bars) on a 110mm or so stem. Running the arm rests farther forward seems to make the bike a bit to twitchy for me (as you noted about the increased frontal weight distribution) and then if you run them to far back the main problem is that you’ll tend to hit them with your knees while climbing (ouch!) and again handling might be thrown off a bit. anyways, others will chime in I’m sure but things don’t seem that off to me…
