Aero wheels on road bikes

i’m very slowly upgrading my road bike and have begun to muse about which wheelset i woudl throw on the bike. To complicate matters i have also thought about using the same wheelset on my tri bike. (some may remember me trying to swap my 100’s for 404’s in the classifieds). This seems like a fine idea except my tri bike is Shimano 9 and the road bike is Campy 10, and after years of swapping the same saddle and pedals between bikes i’ve decided that trying to change over to freehub and cassette evertime is more a pain in the a$$ then i really want.

Then I thought to myself, Self, why not run a disk on the Tri bike and just swap a nice front back and forth (meaning get a set of 303’s or 404’s and a disk). This sounded like a much better plan, but now i’m faced with deciding if I want a more shallow wheel or a deeper wheel. I know that these are silly problems to have, but what woudl you do?

404

There is no need to swap cassette bodies… Use SRAM cassettes and get Shimano bodied wheels.

Bontrager did a study that said it takes a 12% uphill grade before light weight wheels trump aero wheels. Get 404’s or Bontrager Aeolus 5.0’s
