Perhaps there are rules saying you can’t have bottles behind the seat or on the bars, but did anyone notice aero bottles on either the downtube or seattube? All the ones I saw were regular, maybe much ado about nothing, but what of the data that’s supposedly out there?
Just wondered.

I have Bontrager speedbottle (aero) on my bike. Here is my opinion.
First the TT they are doing is not that long for a full slap of urinals and picnic baskets. EVERY GRAM counts. Second, data could be in favor of aero bottles but it is much easier to grab and pull a regular bottle during a ride.
That being said, I have switched back to regular cage from an aero bottle on the frame, much more easier to use.
What amazes me is that the bottles were on the down tube or seat tube - everyone knows where it should be and that should be a constant?
one should never confuse power, talent and wearing a professional jersey with being smart. we were at MIT a few weeks back, and MCote was telling us funny stories of setups, positions that came into his tunnel that were nutt wild.
that you can push 370 watts for an hour doesnt mean you cross your T’s and dot your I’s.
the other explanation could be that i really only know of 2 good aero bottles. bontragers, and then of course Arundel.
bontrager- not sure any team would let their riders use it since obviously its tied into trek/discovery.
and …
well, an aero bottle is faster. its a 65 minute effort. an aero bottle for 2, 3 sips at best should have been sufficient.
i guess leipheimer really didnt need those 8 seconds.
“geez, what an idiot i am…i forgot to put on that aero bottle. i left in the hotel.”
What amazes me is that the bottles were on the down tube or seat tube - everyone knows where it should be and that should be a constant?
I’ve used both, and for both bottle quality and staying in the cage Bontrager is a winner. however both of the bottles lack of two important points (for triathlon use) ease of use (vs. round bottles easy to grip) and exchange at aid stations. I am not even adding the new Profile Razor bottle to the equation just because: 1) Darn thing do not has a replacement bottle for sale (yet) 2) Bottle does not stay in the cage at all (see the pictures)
picture 1: See the profile bottle out of T1
picture 2: mile 3 where is the bottle???
