Dave Zabriskie has tweaked his 3T Brezza. He has his elbow pads very close to each other which makes him very narrow.
Is it possible to do this also with the 3T Ventus? Or is it definitely not possible to get your elbows this close on a Ventus? I have only seen pictures of the 3T aerobars and was wondering if the Dave Z tweaks on the Brezza are possible on the Ventus.
Bring the pads in very narrow do not in fact make you more aero. I am sure that many hours went into deciding Dave’s position and is set for his particular riding style. If you look at world champions Sarah Hammer’s position her bars are shoulder width. So as to whether or not you need to have your elbows touching to be faster, you should first look at what distance tri’s or tt’s you are doing and then consider as to whether or not having your lungs constricted will allow you run afterwards. In my studies using the DATA system in my shop allowing me to measure the aero displacement of a rider in most cases having the elbows touching does not make you more aero unless you are just very skinny. Before you go and modify the bars and change this check with a fit specialist as I am sure Dave did.
I just want to know if it is possible with a 3T Ventus. Not if it will make me faster Have to do some test runs for it to measure CdA But first I have to know if it is possible to do before I order such aerobar.
It looks to me that the mechanics used a second set of armrest mounts behind the original set and turned the opposite direction. This second set are clamped to the extensions but not to the basebar (much like the Profile cobra or Blackwell clip-on armrest mounts). This allows the armrests to be much narrower, but also places them further behind the basebar than the original position (not a problem on the Brezza, but perhaps a fit problem on the Ventus).
This isn’t markedly dissimilar to the mods many people made to their Profile Carbon X bars.
