After weeks of shopping around and trying every helmet under the sun I finally made my purchase yesterday. It has to be said the choice now is endless and in the end was narrowed down to a Rudy Project, A (available in the uk only) Specialised, and the Limar Chrono. Most others were rejected since the they sit too high on the forehead or don’t allow my choice of glasses to fit round (this is worth checking when you buy).
In the end I went for the Black carbon looking Limar Chrono. If you get the chance feel the weight of this thing. It’s as light as my standard road helmet, masses of adjustability with some nice strap tidying features and actually makes me look as normal as you can get in one of these things. There is no vents on the front but there is an exhaust on the rear so the aerobility looks good. I’m very impressed with the workmanship plus the usual crash replacement policy.
Rated and it’s good to see that already manufacturers are refining this new product niche.
Isn’t this the one that we saw Dopey modeling a few months ago?
Man, my memory rocks…
I think it was JKAllen, with a gap in his teeth you can ride our bikes through…
(by ‘our bikes’ I mean Kalibur…I think the 3 of us all ride her–don’t tell Slowtwitch, or we’ll be forced into saying 3 ‘our fathers’ as penance, which begin: Our Father, who art in Cervelo…Gerard be thy name…thy Kingdom come, CSC’s Will be done…In France as it is in Heaven…)
Yeah, I have a LG Prologue, and it is hard to fit sunglasses on with it. I’m thinking about using a small file to make room on the sides for glasses, but I don’t know if that will compromise the strength of the helmet. Currently, the only glasses I can fit on with the helmet are cheap gas station glasses. My Rudy Project Ketyums don’t fit. I also tried on the Oakley Zero and Zero S- neither fit well with the helmet. Anybody know if the LG Rocket is any better in this respect? If not, I might look at the Rudy helmet or the Limar. Is the Limar legal in the US?
Yep the Rocket has more clearance and yes the Limar is US and UCI approved. The rocket is bigger and has a longer tail but for me I find it a little fragile. The Limar was a far better product (in my subjective eyes only).
UK: Did you consider ventilation in your choice? Are you going to be using it for IM length Races? With no vents in the front, won’t it be a bit toasty? I have the original LG with 3 vents, and in the 2 Half IM’s I’ve used it, I damm near baked my noodle. I was told that the Rudy had the best balance of ventilation/aerodynamics, all other things being equal.
I’ll take this one as he won’t be online until Monday. He doesn’t do IM distance yet, and will only be moving up to 1/2 IM in September. But, he does do a shedload of TTs of 25 miles or less, which for him means no ride will be over 55 minutes, and usually less!
How is the sizing on the Limar? I just looked at their website, and it said “unisize”. Only one size? I would think this is bad, especially for a TT helmet that is more ‘tight fitting’ than a regular helmet.
If you can find one check out the LAS aero helmet, I don’t think that they sell them state-side. I had to buy my from an over seas seller. If any one wants a pic I can post later. It fits glasses, have had no problems overheating (I live in hot/humid georgia) and I think it looks better than any other aero helmet out there
My other deciding factor is that i feel some of these style helmets are visually too bloated around the forehead area. the Limar sits just right and is a proportionate attempt.
