I watched the TT yesterday, and I noticed a LOT of the riders wearing the Giro had a visor. Is this something that we the regular consumer can purchase? If not, how likely is it that I could get someone to make a visor for me and put it into my helmet?
I have a pair of glasses from performance that actually fit my face well-It took forever to find something I am comfortable with. I don’t really want to go out and buy something (glasses with no upper rim) if I don’t think it will fit me well.
The visor is a modified Louis Garneau Rocket windscreen. I have the same helmet and messed around with fitting it. In the end, I bought a motorcycle faceshield and cut it down to fit better for how I wear the helmet (rotated back some).
I took a cue from another poster here that modified his Bell Meteor II by cutting a small channel in the foam behind the outer shell and slipping the top edge of the windscreen in the channel. I secured it with Crystal Clear caulk from a home supply store.
Depending on what races you’re doing, the officials may take issue with any helmet mods as they differ from the CPSC or similar testing configuration.
A friend of mine has made a visor from an iridium motor bike helmet visor and he has had no problems at all including at ironman florida and ironman germany. He doesnt recommend it as unless you have some serious venting you sweat like a paratrooper on a spelling test
