what would you suggest as a first aero helmet?
Limar Crono. You can ride all the way to the coffee shop with this thing on without getting beat up.
I really like my LG Rocket.
I like the LG Chrono but I am excited about getting a Giro Advantage.
LAS makes the absolute best helmets. They are expensive though.
regional pricing is funny, i bought an LAS but only because after fit, it was the cheapest, plus it has a little more of a klingon look to it.
I made my own aero helmet out of a 1992 Bell Shane Kelly edition and an old swim cap…
Hey Tom,
What aero helmets do u carry at your store…? I’m thinking of getting one but i’d rather be able to try them on first to make sure it fits…
Louis Garneau Rocket helmet. Amazing!
This is a great helmet also! Comfortable and light!
Marcos.
Has there been a scientific study comparing different models like we see with wheels? YAW and all that good stuff that I can barely comprehend…
Here u go…

I would suggest riding your bike in a 40k time trial averaging >25 MPH to see any real difference. Even in that case, it will be very very small.
So I guess if your goal is to go frrom 56:00 to 54:00 then go and buy an aero-helmet. If your goal is to go from 66:00 to 56:00 then hit the gym in the off season along with you indoor trainer with specific goals as to interval training, HRM, power, etc.
Where are the ST nerds when we need them. I scoured this thread for some “cool” comparison of every aero-helmet ridden indoors and outdoors in every possible permutation of conditions, bike, weight, equipment etc.
I love those people because I think about them when I am out actually riding my bike.
Peace out!
I’m using the Giro Advantage (the current model, not tested according to US standards). Have not seen any tunnel data (but guess it is fast since it was used by Lance). I find it very comfortable. Very functional ventilation, does not feel hotter than my standard road helmet when riding in race speed.

Hey Yoyo, when do we get to see pic of your homemade helmet? Did you fill the back of the swim cap full of cement so it would retain its aero shape? I’m assuming it’s certified as well.
Louis Garneau Rocket helmet. I used it during the '06 season and love it.
Do you average more than 25mph in your time trials?
