Wanted to pick people’s brains around this. I borrowed (may buy it for $40—help me decide) a LG Prologue aero helmet for this past weekend’s Timberman half iron. While I went considerably faster than last year (2:28) on the bike on a pretty hilly course; I got very dehydrated and ended up in the med tent dizzy and with blurry vison (after first lap of run) needing two IV bags of salt solution. I also did 600 mg sodium per hour onth ebike. Do people find that these helmets overheat and dehydrate the rider?
I’ve never credited the helmet for a fast split or blamed it for poor hydration. I don’t think a helmet affects either enough to be easily quantifiable.

Agreed. Too much noise to compare one race to another, a year apart.
To make a decision about the helmet, you’d need to ride it repeatedly in familiar and controlled conditions.
I race in a Louis Garneau because a friend sold it to me for $50. I figured for $50 it might make me faster, so why not. I have never used it on a really hot day though;the one half-IM I used it for was very cool. I agree with the above post-er. It may have contributed to a few seconds faster split but shouldn’t be blamed for dehydration.
Didn’t Faris Al-Sultan use a LG in Hawaii the last couple of years?
I have the same LG helmet and have found that when I wear it, I may or may not have faster ride splits, but I always have issues with overheating. Even on Olympic length races. I have all but given up trying to wear it.
This conclusion has been established after two seasons racing.
I just use my standard road helmet, knowing I’m not as aero, but my noodle doesn’t get baked either.
i raced IMC in a LG rocket helmet, i was glad to take it off at T2 but if it is worth 60 sec. per 40K (5 min. at IM) i will wear it again. the hills got hot i will admit but if the coarse is varied AND you keep up with the fluids and salt (endurolytes) you should at a minimum look like an alien maybe even PR…
