Time for a new helmet but don’t have the bucks to spend on a true aero race helmet and a second vented training one. Which road helmets are the most aero?
Or, is there a vented aero that can keep my head cool in the N. Carolina heat?

I haven’t tried one yet, but the Limar 909 looks very vented. And yep, it comes with a bug screen. Anyone ever tried them?

I used Limar helmets (road and aero) for a few seasons and thought they were great. Light, comfortable, etc. This season I switched to a Decibel (by Specialized) and love it. It’s extremely ventilated, by far the ‘coolest’ helmet I’ve ever worn. I’m really looking forward to trying the new ultra-light Specialized helmet that just came out. But Limar makes great helmets too.
Yes but the person starting this thread was asking for the most aero road helmet, not the most vented.
the most vented helmet is likely the least aero.
So its like you have shown him what not to buy, which is a step I suppose
Probably the bmx/skateboard style road helmets by a landslide. Most road helmets are as least of aero as possible. Most road helmets with packing tape blocking the holes are hot but way more aero than the same helmet without. That is why I guessed the bmx style with minimal vents.
Amongst aero helmets the one that gives good aero benefits and which you could use day in day out without overheating too much or looking like the ultimate trigeek aerogadget dork as you ride to the cornerstore to pick up some milk would be the LG Chrono.
Or you can take you regular helmet and tape it up for races. My regular helmets are still taped up from the spring here, and I just decided to leave the tape on during the summer and now when I put on my aero helmet it never feels hot.
I didn’t think there would be a simple a answer, When I’m up in LP I’ll just try a few standard ones on and pick the one with the least surface area (more aero, I guess?) and the best venting.
I’m not ready to skip on the venting, it just gets’s too damn hot down here to skip on them.
When I win Lotto this year I’ll go for a true aero as a second helmet.

are there any particular helmets you would suggest??? In another thread I suggested the limar 707 because it has a fairly minimal design (low frontal area), uvex fp1 because the vents are quite narrow and the lazer genesis (it just looks sleek, and the ribs on the helmet are flat and maybe easier for the air to flow over)
again I am just guessing.
Any other suggestions???
what if you just taped the front holes and not the back ?
would that cause a problem ?
how much faster is a taped helmet ?
