Aero Helmet (3)

Guys, my GF wants to buy me an Aero helmet. Which helmet should I be looking at. I am racing TT’s and Olympic Tri’s and one Half Ironman this year.

I am looking at the Giro Advantage 2 I think it looks bad ass in white. What are good aero helmets??

I have the giro advantage 2, and its pretty sweet.

Some bike shops still have the 08’ lingering around and are selling them at half price. I was talking to a LBS and they said the 09’ are no different then the 08’. So i thought it was pretty sweet i picked up an 08’ for 75$

+2 for the Giro Advantage. We’ve both just gone into them and raced our first half last weekend. Reasonably warm and humid conditions, but never felt overheated in the helmet - temp 20C. Trained at a lower intensity in mid 20C temps, again without feeling overheated.

I have one too. No complaints. And the white/silver do look good.

You should go to a shop and try every one that they have on. Helmets fit differently. That cool bad-ass helmet won’t work if it doesn’t fit you right.

Be a smart shopper and buy for fit rather than flash

Nashbar has the LG Rocket in all sizes, for $99. Also, a coupon SINGLE15 gets 15% off that.

Tom D’s review of aero helmets is a good overview of fit etc. considerations. Which helmet is fastest is another question entirely…

Used an advantage 2 last year, I experienced that it was a bit more suited for people riding in a more upright position/ lifting their head more.
Suited meanid closing the gap between head and back.
I’ll be wearing the cratoni c-project next year, just have to wait another 2 weeks for it to arrive.
I will post feedback here if someone’s interested

Another vote for the Giro Advantage II–a superb helmet. (Prior to getting it I owned the Rudy Syton Supercom and then the LG Rocket, neither of which fit me right, which is to say that fit should be your number one criterion.) Another very nice aero helmet is the Spiuk Kronos, but unfortunately it only comes in one size, I think…

Limar Crono 05
Faster than a Giro and way easier to get on.

Giro makes a good helmet. I used it for a couple of Tri’s last summer, and I can’t really attest to how much of a difference it made, but I could definitely say that it made me feel faster. Putting the helmet on is a little tricky because of the ear tabs, so you’d probably want to practice a little bit before attempting a fast T1. Otherwise, if the helmet fits…

2x on limar! Cracked mine and got a concussion. Dont remember much, but guessing I went over handlbars slight hop in wheel and bar end shifters were a little road burned along with my head and body after coming through in a daze. I hate to think what would have happened if not on . So it protects too besides being fast. I liked it also because the tail is not enormous and you can get out of the saddle and climb comfortably.

wow i just googled that helmet. Anyone riding an Orbea Ordu should be forced to wear that helmet!

And ANOTHER vote for the Giro Advantage 2 here! Only aero helmet I put on that fit comfortably and actually felt like it would protect my melon.

I just got the Giro Advantage 2 and fitted it tonight. I like it and will definitely take it out for a test ride and look like a total tool. Gotta ride with something for a number of hours to learn what it REALLY feels like in order to make those final comfort adjustments. That said, I have a long skinny head and it fits me well (size M).

Try Spiuk** Kronos** for sure. Very aero, light and cool. I’m using this helmet for a year and love it. The only problem - one size.

Giro Advantage 2. Great helmet, great price, and great design. I know that when Astana took them into the tunnel it was discovered that the helmet produced the same amount of drag if the rider was looking foward or looking down. The faring in the air did nothing to negatively effect drag. Sounds petty, but enough petty’s out on the bike result in large problems in the end. This is the helmet to get.

I bolded the most important part of the statement missed by many…

+1 the Limar. what looks faster isn’t necessarily so.

The fastest one is usually the one that fits YOU and doesn’t drive YOU crazy or make YOU too hot while YOU are wearing it. Don’t be a sucker for “looks cool”.

There is a guy selling them (limar) on ebay for around 89.00. I think he only has the silver listed but you can email him and ask just search Limar on ebay. I bought mine from him a year ago ( paid 79.99) and it was the mucho cool carbon looking one. Sadly it is just a decorative war badge hanging in the garage now. If you want I will find his ebay name for you just PM me and I will try to get to it tonight.

I just saw that cratoni helmet online the other day when I was searching aero helmets.
I’m seriously depressed that it doesn’t have CPSC certification. Are you in a different country (not USA), or are you just saying screw you to USAT and wearing it anyway?
And where did you buy it from?
