Check out this fairing, the idea obviously isn’t new, has been tried by TJ Tollakson and deemed illegal.

Hmm. it would be fun to test, wouldn’t it?
I wonder if it would mount over an aerobar. It would be a blast to try it.
Don’t know about USAT, but definitely illegal for USAC.
I was considering one of these for cold weather commuting. Carrying cargo would be a huge bonus.

Whoa! That thing is instant frontal area. I’m not sure it should be called “aero” fairing.

Adding frontal area can decrease drag if it decreases Cd!
that brings me back to the thought of a torpedo bottle strapped to stem and bar…
This cracks me up! One of the pictures on that page is of my bike - 23 years ago, before the 1991 Iditabike. Steve Mitchell is holding my bike, and his is to the left. I still have that Fat City.
Those fairings add a significant amount of warmth just by keeping the wind off your hands and arms.
Reminds me of this mythbusters episode
Think if a fairing is over a certain percentage and not a structural part of the bike it is illegal with USAT. I could be wrong.
At a certain point in technology I just say “OK. Great. But I don’t want to look a like a complete _____.”
Pretty sure it’s illegal - would be super interesting to know what kind of difference it’d make!

(e) There must be no protective shield, fairing, or other device on any part of the bicycle (including frame, wheels, handlebars, chain wheel, and accessories) which has the effect of reducing resistance. Aerodynamic carriers for food, water, and or cycling provisions may be attached to or be an integral part of the aero-handlebars if they meet the following guidelines:
Interesting.
However, at a USAT Sanctioned Even = Illegal Equipment.
Sorry everyone. You could definitely train with it and likely have some major benefits. :0) Just take it off before rolling in to the Transition Area on race morning.

Always thought about doing a sprint on my fixed gear for shits and giggles and just saw I would get disqualified because pedals must remain in free wheeling position when you move your bike.
