Is there any wisdom on putting an aero cover on an aero rim. I guess it woudl make sense on a more shallow rim like a 404, but are you really gaining anything on an 808 or a BR100?
I started a thread about this a while back - I wanted to see some pics of covers with aero rims, and how well they worked. Saw some nice setups, got some good feedback. I’m convinced. Check out the thread: http://forum.slowtwitch.com/gforum.cgi?post=1029664;search_string=show%20me;#1029664
Here’s one of the nice ones (not mine).

In a no-wind situation, the 808 and similar wheels will perform virtually identically to a disc. In sidewind conditions, the disc/cover will prove faster. And there are almost always sidewinds.
I don’t know about that. What about the H3 disc - forget what it’s called, but it’s a trispoke with a disc built in. Supposedly stupid fast? I saw a picture here recently.
I just saw one on ebay last week. It might still be there.
i have to guess that it could not have been that superior, or they would still make it. Or am I wrong?

A disc is a disc. There’s more variation in how different riders hold their hands than there is between discs.
I don’t know. I would figure they’re probably pretty expensive to make, and maybe that’s it. I saw Hincapie outfitted with one this spring - I forget which race.
Isn’t the new Bontrager disk essentially shaped this way? It looks like a shaped rim seamlessly connected to a cover.
Any pictures?

Looking closely, it looks like the Aeolus rim combined with a flat disc. I’m sure there are other photos, this is from the Bontrager site.
like this?
