But as Jack said, the savings will still be in absolute terms: 10-30 watts. Fat or skinny, that is the absolute savings. Since a fat guy won’t necessarily be putting out more power than a skinny guy, I’d think the savings would be just as important. Plus he’d likely be slower, so isn’t that another argument? He’s slower so the aero gains are even more important than if he were skinny and fast.
When you talk in terms of savings, you paint it as if everyone starts at a ‘base’ number of watts and you can then shave watts by buying fancy toys until you get as close to 0 as possible.
This is obviously ludicrous. If I ride with a huge parachute attached to my ass, a 10 watt savings due to a fast bike isn’t going to make the least bit of difference. I’m going to be dead slow due to the parachute, no matter what.
