Nice frame - how you guys going to build it up?

Had mine a few months. A real dream machine…

how’s it go? “Pics or it isn’t real”…

great looking frame. When I visit your site, why is there no section for Aegis like there is for Cervelo, Felt, Issac, etc…etc…? It sems like aegis is a great bike and has a cult following but it sure is hard to find a dealer for them…do you order them direct and have them shipped from the factory? what gives?

Had picks on here a few months ago.

any picks of the fork, from the front?

it looks like there’s something unusual going on there, but i’ve seen like 50 pics from the side and none from straight on.

Kinda looks like a melted Guru Crono. The finish looks downright silky.

I may have a pic… No, I don’t have a real good one. They use the oval concepts A900 fork, although another option would be the Easton ec90 aero.

working on it and the site on our page should be up mid day tomorrow!

That is the matte black finish, exclusive at R&A!

I talked to the guy who designed the Zareo at the New England Multisport Expo. I belive he is one of the head guys at Aegis, but I do not remember his name. But, I do remember what he told me about the bike! He designed the frame after reading Slowman’s article a while back about building the perfect tri bike (which I can’t find right now). The Aegis guy told me he was trying to get Dan to do a review. What do you say Slowman? Is there one in the works???

It’s an oval jetstream.

can you comment on how well the rear brake works, and on whether the caliper or cable ever interferes with your leg?

The thing that turns me off about a bike like this immediately is the aero seat tube with a regular seatpost in it. It is purely asthetic but I hate it when bike designers do that, it just kills the look for me. The old trek equinoxs’ did that too but the new ones have an aero seat tube + seatpost and the sexy appeal went way up. Everything else about the bike is dope, looks mighty fast.

you know, it is funny how the abrupt ending of the seat tube can just kill the overall appeal of a bike. I agree, while I understand there may or may not be an advantage to an aero seatpost, the continuation of lines just seems to look better. I have always felt this way about the KM-40’s or ProFoils as well (while the old 500 SCI actually narrowed down at the point where the post met the frame).

Then again, I have also thought this left room for some type of “add-on” piece that would look like a continuation of the seatpost, but in reality was a storage facility for tubes (probably only clinchers), co2, levers, etc.

However, that flat black is a good look. I’m not a big fan of their lettering, but maybe the next step is to not do any lettering per se, but sort of a glowing back shadow (maybe yellow to red or red to yellow fade to match zipp colors?). Subtle is cool, and while it is better, there just seems to be something missing on the aesthetics.

Overall though, I’m definintely interested in seeing a Zaero up close one of these days. It is definitely on the short list when I look for new bikes.

Not the best picture, but here is a matte finished Aegis Trident. I believe the frame is a 99.

I have a custom generic “bento box” knock off from all3sports that I run behind my seatpost with a tubular and inflation gear in it. No pictures of that though, sorry.

I agree - full carbon seatpost masts or aero seatposts are sexy…however…sexy doesn’t make you faster nor does it always lend itself to functionality.

Some of John Cobbs thoughts on aero posts - http://www.trinewbies.com/Article2.asp?ArticleID=4

What if you are at a race and you have a last minute issue with your seatpost, unlikely I know, but what if?. What are the chances that the support crew at the race will have just the right post for your bike that requires a special shape/configuration? Not to mention adjustability, addition of bottle cages, etc.

Bike designers are faced with the form vs functionality challenge. In regards to the seatpost, we’ve chosen to side with functionality rather than form (sexy) since getting to the finish line is what matters most and an aero post between a riders spinning legs isn’t going to offer much in the way of aerodynamic advantage.

That’s our take.

We’ve explored something along the lines of what you are talking about here -

"…I have also thought this left room for some type of “add-on” piece that would look like a continuation of the seatpost…"

But the key is to make sure that it works, isn’t a hassle to install or adjust, and doesn’t interfere with performance in any way.
