Aegis Tri T2?

Any thoughts? I’m a second year tri guy with 2 halfs and about 15 shorter tri’s over the last 2 years. I’m doing LP next year and wanted a new bike. I have a Klein Q pro w/ aero bars w/standard DA 12/25, 53/39 and I love it. I was thinking about a compact crank for the new bike for LP and possibly doing some hillier races next year. I really have no expertise in picking a bike but I think the Aegis looks cool!?! I know it comes down to fit. I was also considering the Seduza or Caliente which are both on sale now. The Aegis would be alot more money but if I could convince my wife that I really need it and I work weekends for the entire winter I might be able to swing it. Am I nuts or will I be able to feel a big difference in the 2 bikes (Aegis or QR) compared to what I ride now? I am hoping to do LP in under 14. My best half was 6:22. I am training over the winter so I expect to be in better shape for next year.

I recommend forgetting about brands that you have seen online or on sale and going to a top-notch fitting shop or bike shop to get fit. Once the fit is done, you’ll have a better idea of which bike might be best for you. If you tell us what part of the country/world you are in, we can recommend good places for a fitting.

I live in NJ and there are lots of places o get fit, I was just day dreaming about the Aegis and wondering if anyone had any feedback about it. Thanks.

No, but despite it’s looks I suspect it did not have the same level of R&D as the P3 it mimics…

I bought a T2 6 weeks ago. It’s an awesome bike and I would highly recommend it! Very easy to handle, very light and fun to ride. I would highly recommend the T2. I also got a detailed bike fit before I went shopping, so I knew the T2 would fit me well. Get a fit and get all the measurements, then have fun looking at bikes.

I know it’s anecdotal, but I’ve seen numerous posts on this forum and others about cracking problems on the frames of previous Aegis bikes (not the new T2.) I like their bikes and the company in general, but you might want to check into this.

Pleased to hear that you are considering a T2 for your next bike - I believe you will find it to be a significant improvement over your current ride.

The fit is the most important element - of any bike you buy. Give me a call so that we can discuss your current sizing and position to determine which T2 would be the best for you to pursue.

As for you question: "Am I nuts or will I be able to feel a big difference in the 2 bikes (Aegis or QR) compared to what I ride now? " - I can only speak for the AEGIS when I tell you that it will be faster, more comfortable and more durable than any other carbon bike made. Made in the USA, with a lifetime warranty - and that’s a lifetime warranty free of all the fine print that you find in some other warranties.

not what you were asking but i ride the caliente and love it, have not found a single thing i do not lke about it
.

No, that is what I’m asking , for input and thanks. I always wondered about getting a fit at a place that did not sell a particular bike but i guess I am going to get numbers from the fit and that will determine what bike will be the best for me regardless of what they sell That’s redundant but I don’t care. Thanks again.

no prob.

also, this might not be the ideal way to go about it but you can adjust so much on tri bikes that if you are close either may fit. i know some people will not be able to fit on one that is very close to another, but a lot of people can fit on either with a little adjusting.

so if your close and you want that one ssee if it will work out;-)

Go with the T2 it’s a fantastic bike, I have tried other brands like Kuota, QR and Scott but the ride quality of the T2 just that much better
.

interesting to note, that Aegis actually came out with this bike before the P3!!
very nice riding bike, the best handling tri bike I have ever been on. slightly heavier than others, but the quality and craftsmanship of an american made bike is really sweet!

As always, each to their own !!!

“I can only speak for the AEGIS when I tell you that it will be faster, more comfortable and more durable than any other carbon bike made.”

Based on ? Testing ? Anecdotal ? Can anyone elaborate on this statement ? Isn’t that statement speaking for ALL other brands ? Is the the T2 doing something it’s competition isn’t ?

i tried to quote and apparently dont know how to do it correctly, what i tried to say was…

i have never ridden an aegis, so i cant comment on them other than that they look great and that goes a long way. in saying that they are the fastest, most comfortable, most durable etc you are not really only speaking for aegis, its a pretty omnibus statement.

When is the new website be up and running? I am curious to see what the new T2 looks like.

The website should be completed by the end of this month. As for the new T2 - the design is still being finalized and the production model is slated for release mid to late 2007.

To partially answer your questions - please look to at least 2 seperate posts on this thread alone about the handling and ride quality of AEGIS frames.

People constantly tell us that their AEGIS is faster than any bike they’ve ever ridden. (faster)
People constantly tell us that their AEGIS is more comfortable than any bike they’ve ever ridden. (more comfortable)
People constantly tell us how much they enjoy riding thier 5, 10, 15 and even 20 year old AEGIS frame on a daily basis. (durable)

What is the T2 doing differently than the competition?
It’s built with aerodynamics, comfort, durablility and weight in mind - we don’t build it to be the lightest, and in doing so, we make a bike that truly takes advantage of carbon’s properties related to bicycle frames - it’s comfortable even after 112 miles in the saddle and strong even after 10+ years down the road.

What are we doing differently than the competition?
We build our frames in the USA from US sourced materials with US craftspeople
We outsource no part of our process - design, testing, manufacturing, customer service, etc.
We’ve been building full carbon frames longer than anyone else - since 1986.

Greg,

I’m doing a fair amount of work for a thesis I’m doing on bicycle evolution and design and whilst I’m aware of Aegis (one of my friends over here swears by his) I am geneuinely interested in what you’re coming up with. Have any of your models seen wind tunnel time yet ?
