Any suggestions on who makes a better bike for around $2500?
Greyhound-I certainly wouldn’t say anything negative against Aegis. I do though have a Kestrel Talon SL and absolutely love it! It’s light, responsive, and strong. Good luck!
Can’t say anything about Aegis. Never even touched one. I’ve owned 2 Kestrels and have been very happy with both. And their customer service is extremely helpful and easy to work with (you’ll never know how important that is until you really need it!)
I don’t want to sound like broken wheel, but I would buy what fits first. Then if comes down to Aegis v. Kestrel, all I can say is that I have owned two Kestrels (200EMS and KM40) which were great bikes, right up to the point when they were stolen. Anyway I really liked them both, if the airfoil pro would have been available when I was replacing my stolen bikes I probably would have ended up with Kestrels again.
Either are great bikes, no doubt about it. But, I would add the following caveat regarding a Kestrel: If you are over 190, or so pounds, then you should consider the Talon. The Talon SL is lighter but at the expense of less material, and therefore a lower breakage threshold.
I am 220 and have ridden a Talon (Ultegra/Velomax) with no problems whatsoever. This was recommended to me by one of their people in Watsonville.
I’ll bite.
The Aegis T2 is freakin sensual, but it’s certainly a lot more than $2500.
You may be able to get the Trident for about that price. From a distance it is sexy, and up close it is simply erotic. Plus it comes in a multitude of brilliant colors.
The Kestrel Talon is also a beauty, just not quite as hot as an Aegis.
You can’t go wrong either way, but fit wise you could certainly go wrong one way. Try’em before you buy’em, they are differenet bikes built for different people.

Is it true that the Talon is just an aero looking road bike ? If so they are very different bikes.
I have a Kestrel Talon and love it. Dont know anything about Aegis.
The talon (to my understanding) is more of a road bike, but it was built more in (Dare I say it) Cerveloish fashion. You can ride it as a road bike, or you can flip the seatpost and it rides close to the characteristics of a tri-bike. I had heard though, that the seat won’t flip much past 77 degrees, but that would be a point for Tom or Dan to cover.
Either way I’d say the test ride will say.

The Talon is basically an aero road bike. If you can ride 76 degrees or less, it probably handles OK. For me, at about 76 degrees, it gets too squirrelly up front.
I ride a P3, and just recently had a chance to ride the Talon and liked the feel of carbon very much. I am concidering selling my P3 and buying a KM40 or the new Airfoil Pro. I like the Km40 as it is a one piece frame, but the bike only comes in two sizes and 650 wheels. I ride a 55 Cervelo and have been told I should fit on the 52 KM40, I dont have one in my area I can ride, so I might just have to buy one through the mail and try to make it work. However I think that these Kestrel’s are awesome bikes…
That is a tough one…either will do well…though I have a deep love for Aegis and their awesome service. Another thing to consider…Aegis will custom paint any bike for the same price (as long as you dont want freaky ass custom paint).
