Aegis cycles

Let me start with, I am not one for touting one company over another and that is not what I intend to do here either. But it is so rare to get decent service out of any company nowadays that when you do it is such a shocker. Then sometimes you get service that is just insanley good.
I returned from a training ride trying to figure out why my bike (Aegis Trident) was squeaking, after cleaning it and give it the once over i spotted the problem. A crack along 1/3 of the top tube. I was freaked out, if anyone knows the some of the downhills in the santa monica mountains youll understand what it feels like to stare at a cracked frame after going down kanan dume on your TT bars.
The bike was about 5-6 years old and figured that there was very little chance of getting anythign out of the bike co as any manufacturing defect would have happened a long time and many miles ago.
I decided to call Aegis anyway jsut to see what they had to say. I got through to the owner of the company, I told him i had not much hope of discounts and would go bike shopping right away as i am training for IM lake placid. He imediately said he’d help me out and get me a new frame painted up and shipped out right away and we could deal with discounts and everything else later. Whooooa there, I did not nessecarily want a new Aegis. Not that there is anything wrong with it just that if you are going to have to swap bikes out you may as well have a look around.
I spent the next two days playing catch up on what was out there and decided that the new T2 was most likely the best fit for me anyway. I called back and got the plan to send my bike in via a bike shop. He was willing to paint up the bike and ship it out 2nd day air to the bike shop before my bike had even been stripped and sent out. i was shocked, even if i was not going to get a discount it was worht it just to get the bike that fast.
The bike store was the slowing partof the deal not sure if they could keep the frame if there was no discount yaaa dee yaaa. After assurance that i would take the frame myself they played ball.
What followed was even more crazy, when i heard the frame had arrived and my bike had not been looked at by Aegis I called to see what happened. They had decided to give me a 30% crash discount on the frame and fork regardless whether or not the crack was my fault or not. i was shocked once again.
It is rare to find a company thats willing to help you out and make you feel like you really mean anything at all. If you are in the market for a new frame/bike I can’t recommend trying out and Aegis enough after my experience. I have ridden the bike for a few weeks now and it is more responsive and definatley a better bike than the Trident was.
If you have any questions about the bike, give them a call, i’ll bet they have the time to answer your ?'s and more.
Now I am no devotee to any particuler company of any sort, i have always felt that I would ride the bike that best fitted me. simple. Having said that, as long as Aegis keep up and build bikes that fit me I see no reason to ever change bike companies again.

This post is long enough and I don’t want to be negative but, as for the bike store. Everything went ok until they had to build the bike and fit me for it. I spent two hours in the bike store finding tools and fitting myself. For all their hype and raving about how good they are I can not say enough bad about NYTRO in San Diego. I am sure it was an anomaly, but they could not have been more a polar opposite to dealing with Aegis.

Hmm. They decided to give you a 30% “crash discount”? You didn’t crash it did you?

Most carbon frame makers warrantee their frames for a long time (lifetime for Trek; 25 years for Calfee). You should be getting a free frame replacement and you’re only getting a 30% discount. I’m not sure I’d be happy. You might also want to look up some of my earlier posts on the T2.

I’m sorry to hear about your experience at Nytro. I have always had great experiences @ Nytro especially with one of the main gentleman there-Chris Sincovich. He has given me better service then anyone at any LBS (Hank @ Hi-Tech is great as well) which is why I always go back to him for my TT or tri items. The guy truly understands customer service at it’s finest. He always makes time for me, even to talk shop, tri, cycling, or just life. This considering the guy is extremely busy.

BTW-I believe Chris is FIST certified as well.

Again I am sorry for your experience. Maybe you should call Chris directly and let him know about your dissatisfaction and see what he can do.

Great news about the service! I have had a Trident since 2002 and still love it. Good to know they’re responsive as well.

I once ordered a Corima Puma and other items from Nytro, Chris Seincevich handled my orders. The deal went fast, no hidden cost and very pleasant. All thru the net. I live in the Philippines!
