My LBS says I need a new cog and chain. The cog has the wear marks and is slipping. The chain is obvious. Here is the question. I have heard lots of stuff but what is the opinion of how to proceed with the new stuff. I have Ultgra and will get same components.
Should I lube or no lube. Some I know wax but that is probably a little beyond me at this time. Any advice?
you should buy a cog and chain at the same time…
Get a ultegra cassette, and a ultegra chain, or if you would prefer get a wipperman which has the removable link making it easier to clean…
The chain comes prelubed, which depending on how anal you are is just fine
Chains should be cleaned every 1 - 3 times you go out After cleaning let the degreaser dry then add the lube of your choice…
I personally like white lightning but no one else on this forum seems to like it… good luck
Eventually you might want to learn how to change your chain and cassette… the chain especially… svaes wear and tear on your cassette

You can save a few grams with Dura-Ace, but that’s up to you. The Whipperman would be good if you PLAN ON removing your chain often to really clean it and/or dip it in wax for lube. Personally, I use White Lightning like taku and really like it. I don’t even clean my chain. I just reapply the WL OFTEN. If I have the time, I put some on after every ride, or the night before. I just apply it as I spin the cranks. Once I am sure I got some on all the links, I spin it for a minute or two then take a towel and wipe the excess (and dirt) off. My chain stays very clean and quiet.
