Advice needed on older Quintana Roo Tri Bike

Hey group need some advice. I have an older Quintana Roo that my college son would like to use for his first tri. The wheels are 19 x 632 and tires are 26 x 7/8. Impossible to find the exact size tires as looks like the world has gone wider (I mountain bike). Its hard to tell whether 26 1 and 1/4 would work which seems like the narrowest tire out there. Definitely don’t want to spend more money than the bike is worth and obviously not sure if triathlon will be a one time thing or not.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Older Quintana roo’s (superform’s, kilo’s) came with 650c wheels. The corresponding tire size in modern ETRTO figures is either 23-571 or 25-571 (at least for clinchers, not sure about tubulars)

Hi. As mentioned, your bike has 650c wheels (not to be confused with 650b, which are for mountain bikes). The tires for these are hard to find now, but usually you can get Vittoria Rubino Pro tires sized 650cx23mm on Amazon. I think that is about as wide as you are going to find. I do not know if 23 (millimeters) is any wider than 7/8 of an inch, but I’ve raced on wheels of that width for years and have done just fine. If you need spare tubes, usually you can find tubes for 650c wheels on Amazon, too, but in a pinch you can use a standard 700cx23 tube in a 650c tire. Good luck to your son and I hope this helps/
