Advanced Runners in Central NJ Area?

Looking for like-minded, driven runners in the Central NJ area. I would like to have someone to do some long runs with. I need someone who is at my level or faster.
My 10 mile tempo runs are currently at 6:45 / mile pace. I am in North Brunswick, NJ.

Anyone interested?

I’ll be there the week before Boston to join you

Did you run the Philadelphia Marathon? If so, how did it go?

Jack,

  1. Shoot me an e-mail if you like as we have a # of group runs in Monmouth County during the week & on weekends w/ guys ranging from <15min 5k on up (Brian@PersonalBestNutrition.com). We’re also partnering w/ a new running store in Freehold (Runner’s High in the new iPlay America plaza, right off Rt9 - scheduled to open in Feb) & will be basing a lot of runs out of the store.

  2. Stop writing things like *advanced runner *as it makes you sound like a jacka## We often have Olympic Trials level runners (just ran w/ a woman from Jackson on Sunday who’s heading to Houston & ran a 1:13 1/2 in Philly) & none of them refer to themselves as *advanced. *Just some helpful advice to keep your ego in check before you start running w/ guys/girls who run 6:45s on their easy days.

+1. My 10m temp pace is less than 6:40/miles but I hardly consider myself advanced. I’m lucky if I win an ag award at local races

Hi Brian,
I live approx. 3 minutes from the new iPlay Plaza. Do you know when that new running store is going to open?
Thanks

I don’t have too much of a problem with someone of this speed calling themselves ‘advanced’. That’s a pretty vague term and doesn’t imply that he’s so good that nobody can keep up with him.

It’s also not fair to expect someone to run at Olympic Qual level to call themselves ‘advanced’ - that’s pro/elite, and near world-class. If we had to use that criteria as advanced, nobody in the world would be advanced at anything.

But yes, since it’s all relative anyway, ‘advanced’ on Slowtwitch is going to get you some flak. However, compared to the typical crowd that shows up for a club run that isn’t specifically geared at top runners, a 6:45 pace for 10 miles (3:10 marathon equivalent) is going to be advanced, putting you in the front. Don’t think he’s overstating his abilities here, despite the fact that there are tons of people on this forum who can make that look downright leisurely.

6:45 pace is much quicker than a 3:10 marathon. It’s closer to 2:57!

Robb,

Awesome that you’re so close as we’re going to try & do a lot out of the store ++ a specialty running/nutrition store is going to fill a big void in the area.

Tentatively we’re looking at a *soft *opening date, most likely during the 1st week of February (+/-) w/ the Grand Opening February 25-26. We’ve just about completed all preliminary construction & the place looks great, w/ just a few odds & ends to tie up…

My suggestion would be to follow PBN on Twitter or *like *the Runner’s High Facebook page as we’ll be posting updates once we have the exact dates, set in stone.

Thanks for the inquiry & I look fwd to meeting you soon!

Hi Brian,

I was interested in joining your running club until I read your 2nd point to me. Sounds like your the jackass. I have no interest in being affiliated with anyone like you.

thanks

Ego strikes again!

Wow Jack, sorry for offending you as this was said tongue in cheek. There’s an opportunity for you to join w/ some of the best runners in the area (both on & more importantly, off the race course) & the offer stands if you want to connect w/ me face-to-face vs on an internet board.

We’re heading to the Manasquan Reservoir at 2pm today, so if you’d like to join in this afternoon it would be great to meet you outside of the internet BS.

Hi Brian,

Thank you for your response. I appreciate it. I just sent you an e-mail.

Dude-Brian is one of the nicest guys on this board, he was joking around and being helpful.

But his comment was useful as well, it’s no sin to call yourself “advanced”, it just sounds goofy. Like if you got a new coworker who came in and started dropping cliche industry lingo while you and your coworkers rolled your eyes. Or paddling out into the lineup at a nice surf break and telling everyone how you’re going to hang ten.

You’re a good runner, go run with some better runners and enjoy it.

I hear ya.

Advanced? Is that advanced douchebaggerry?

PS - 6:45 is not really fast.

Edit: Didn’t read the thread, just fired at the OP

You were right. Met up with him. Brian is a great guy!
