Adjustable Stems?

Any thoughts on which adjustable stem to get.
Ritchey Pro Adjustable?
ITM?
Any others?

Not looking to break the bank on this purchase!

Also should I get the same length stem as my current one.

I am looking to get a bit lower in front. Currently 110mm @ -10 degrees.

If you’re currently running a -10 you can get a bit lower with a Ritchey Pro -17. This will be lighter, cheaper, and more reliable than any adjustable stem. I’d only go with an adjustable if you still can’t get low enough even with the -17.

I just got an adjustable at Nashbar for $20. comes in 3 sizes. Get one, maybe the 10.5cm. The you can gauge what you really need without spending $60-70 for a fancy one.

The clamp dia on that nashbar adjustable is 25.4, I dont know much about things, but aren’t most road handlebars 26.0, or can you just use it anyway
.

There’s always the Look Ergostem. Gives you almost infinite adjustability. But I got one and found I couldn’t clamp it down tight enough to keep it from moving. I’d finish rides with my bars pointing down at a 45 degree angle. Thankfully, my LBS took it back and swapped me out for a fixed stem.

Then again, a friend has the Look Ergostem and his seems to be solid as a rock. Don’t know how to explain why his worked and mine didn’t.

It’s pricey and, like all adjustable stems, it weighs a lot.

I’ve got one of those Ritchey pro adjustables and it is solid as a rock. You have to unloosen the bolt quite a bit to adjust the angle of the stem as the splines are pretty deep. So its a bit of a pain to adjust. You can’t just unloosen and try different heights on the fly. But once you got where you need it, its solid.

Having said that, the Profile H2O comes in -17 and -25, I think. That might be an option as well.

I have a used ergo stem that I could sell for $50. I loved the adjustability, but got a proper fit and put on a regular stem for the reduced weight.

It worked just fine on my Profile base bar.

The Look Ergostem works perfectly for trackies putting out well over 1000watts, so being as you’re a pansy-sized rider I’d say it’s just your inability to master the complicated process of torquing the two hex nuts to spec
.

The ITM stem is nice, but different than the Look in that you can only change the angle and it’s only available in two lengths, I believe.

They’re just very pricey. A $20 experiment is pretty cheap. Not as versatile as th Ergo, though.

Go for it.!!!
