Adidas adios vs ace

Was reading up on the light weight runners on the main page under:

http://www.slowtwitch.com/Products/Running_Footwear_by_brand/Mizuno_running_shoes/More_lightweight_trainers_09_641.html

I was a little confused, as they have the adios weighing more then the ace, yet the article states that the ace has more shoe and a bit more in the heel. I know the adios is a marathon shoe, but a little more research on line has me even more confused as different sites has the ace weighing more and some less then the adios. All state that the adios replaces the CS, but some say the ace replaces the RC and others say it doesn’t. That it is built around the CS, but more shoe then the adios.

Long story short is a local shop has the ace on sale and just wondering if it’s a 5-10k shoe (which I don’t want) or is it a half to marathon runner. Lastly does it weigh more then the adios.

Thanks
Darren

The Ace is a much different shoe than the RC. It would work find for any distance. A bit heavy for my liking though.

The RC is my favorite running shoe for all distances.

I have a pair of LT’s that I like to wear long, and a pair of Pro’s for short races and speedwork as well.

Never used the Adios… seems a bit heavy for a flat.

Darren,

Sorry about confusion we at adidas may have caused you.
Adios - Replaced the adizero LT. It has the same forefoot but a bit more heel cushioning built in.
Ace - Replaces the CS. Lighter upper than the CS but essentially the same tooling.

Race Distance - We’ve got a 2:28 Boston runner here in the BU and he’s running in the Ace. He feels the Adios just isn’t enough at that distance. He’s fine with it through 10 miles but then feels like he needs more shoe (the Ace). He’s done the following workout in the Ace. Warm up 10 miles, Race 5 Miles (under 27 minutes), continue 8 miles to home. I think the Ace is the choice you are looking for.

Haile ran his 2:03:59 in the adios but he’s Haile right!

Yes the Ace weighs more than the Adios by roughly 20 grams.

I hope this answers your questions.

Cool… someone who works at Adidas here!

Where did all these great lightweight shoes come from… Japan?
I’ve been compromising in Asics and Saucony for years… glad to be wearing the three stripes again.

Thank you, exactly what I was looking for. I pulled the trigger and am looking at a new pair of Aces sitting on my table right now. First race of the season will be a half marathon in April. Looking fwd to running in them. Again thank you for your time and the info, thats why I love ST!!!

Darren

Thank you for the info, gotta love ST.

Ahh, finally the info I’ve been looking for. I’ve been running in the Ace’s for some easy runs and more spirited runs, and have been doing my track work on a pair of Brooks T5 racers (which I love for the short stuff). It seems like the Adidas info has been a little “off” in terms of the marketing of this shoe - at least my perceptions.

I plan on doing a fall marathon, and I’m pretty sure doing a marathon in the Brooks T5 would be a big mistake, and I’m not even 100% sure they will be the ideal shoe for an upcoming half - though I’m going to give them a try. I’ve done all my track work and a couple of 5000m races in them with no issues…

The Ace’s feel like a nice compromise - good cushion, and pretty flat, but not too aggressive. After doing some longer tempo runs over the next couple of months, I’ll have a better idea.

Thanks for the info Dave.

I’ve really come to love my RCs. Have these been discontinued? Please say no.

I’m not an adidas rep but I know more than one who have told me the answer is yes. I am buying the RCs now while I can.

Ai yai, yai, they’re saying adios to my RC.

What is the replacement for the RC and what is the difference?
I like the low heel and the bouncy forefoot. (I’d rather have a gusseted tongue for easy on entry in triathlon.) That elastic on the outside edge of the tongue doesn’t make for quick entry.)

That’s the confusing part. I’ve heard some say that the Adios is the replacement. I’ve heard some say that the Ace is. Neither shoe is remotely comparable, in my opinion and I’ve worn both. Personally I do not think there IS a replacement. I’m stocking up on my RCs

I fouind exactly ONE in my size, so far. I ordered it.

What size?

12.5
( I could use a 12 barefooted.)
.

In that case, try here:

http://www.startfitness.co.uk/acatalog/MensAdidasFootwearLightweight.html

And remember you are looking at UK sizes, not US sizes. Look inside a pair of your current RCs to see on the tag what size you should order

Looks like the largest they have is 11.5 UK (12 US). I might have to give that a go try.
Thanks

Sorry folks for not jumping on this earlier. In Panama working (truly) with little access or need to the web.

The RC is being Replaced by the Rocket in Fall 2009.

RC vs. Rocket
Midsole Heights: The Same
Fit: Same
Midsole Construction: Same flat Construction.
Outersole: In the forefoot the Rocket has rubber where the RC had DSP. Gives you more durablity and cushioning.
Weight: RC 180g vs. Rocket 200g. The weight is in the outersole so you give up weight to get more cushioning.

The Rocket should be in stores and on websites starting in June.

Just found this thread. I am currently running in the Adidas Adizero Pro and am contemplating the Adios. My main complaint with the Pro is the slight lack of support in the heel. Maybe I need to go a size smaller, I don’t know. Anyway, what will be difference between the Pro and the Adios?

Pro vs adios

Differences:

Midsole Heights - Although the heel to forefoot differences are the same in the (10 mm heel lift) you have 1 mm in total more foam under you foot in the adios.

Outsole Package - The adios has blown rubber (more cushion) on the lateral side of the forefoot and DSP on the medial side. The Pro is all DSP in the forefoot. This makes the Pro much lighter but also less forgiving.

Torsion - The Pro has a two piece torsion system that provides midfoot torsional support. The Torsion system on the adios extends two fingers (one up the lateral and one up the medial side) into the forefoot. Over the long haul when your foot is getting tired the adios is still springing back quickly because of the torsion system.

Midsole compound - The Pro is adiprene + through the entire shoe. More rebound is the benefit. The adios is adiprene + in the forefoot and a super cushioned foam in the heel.

Fit - Both shoes follow Omori fit principles. New to 2009 is we’ve expanded those principles into the actual design of the upper. So the upper follows the curves of the last and we sew the upper together in natural breaks rather than forced design breaks. What this does is give you that foot hugging fit you want from a racing flat but with out the potential binding that can occur.

Upper - The upper on the Pro is much lighter in weight and there is less foam around the heel which just provides extra comfort in the adios.

Your question about support. The adios has a great deal more support/cushion in the heel. Although the heel counters are the same in the shoes, the added foam collar on the adios will support your heel better. You also get the super cushioned foam in the heel vs. Rebonding adiprene + found in the Pro. Bottom line is the Pro will work well for 5K/10k. We sat down with Haile to create the adios. The goal was the perfect marathon shoe. He seems to like it.
