Actually booking a hotel room for Laguna Phuket

My wife and I are planning on the Laguna Phuket triathlon, but I can’t seem to book a hotel. I’ve e-mailed the hotel complex a couple times with no response, and tried a triathlon travel agent that had no luck getting a response. Did anyone else have a similar problem? Any suggestions?

Any other hotel recommendations close to the start (we were planning on the Dusit Laguna)?

I’m anxious to book the hotel now because they have an “early bird special” if you book by September 1st where you get one night free for every 2 paid nights. As an alternative, the new race the same weekend in Turks and Caicos is starting to sound more attractive; I’m a bit nervouse that Phuket does not have their act together.

PM Tom Demerley if he doesn’t reply to this thread.

I’ve stayed at the Allamanda twice and thought it was quite nice and one of the less expensive hotels within the Laguna Phuket resort.

My wife and i booked at Allamada Inn two weeks ago. It’s part of the 5 group of resorts in the Laguna Phuket Area. You can also try Best Western or SunWing Resort. It’s about 3km from to Laguna Phuket. This is where we stayed(Best Western) last year. For reference, you can also try Sawadee.com and search. Hope this helps

did you get the early bird rate? how did you book it - call or through website or travel agent? thanks very much?

Jon,

We are in Taiwan, and have stayed at the Dusit a few times now. Last time we were there we got the email address of the Assistant Rooms Manager. Try him direct - dlpgsasstmgr@dusit.com. His name is Somchai Sroisakul, very helpful chap.

We booked it online through Allamada’s site. Am not sure if my wife got the early bird rate but it’s around $100 a night. You can also booked through Sawadee.com. It’s accredited by the Thailand Tourism. This is how we booked last year. Inform the resort that you’re joining the race, because a friend of mine got an additional discount for it. Hope this helps.

I stay at The Dusit Laguna once or twice a year for the past 6 or 7 years. It has gone under renovation n the past 18 months so should be even nicer.

The Banyan Tree is the nicest there and most expensive.

The Sheraton is the second most expensive although IMO nowhere near as nice as The Dusit ( I stayed at Sheraton twice and Banyan Tree twice as well ).

The Laguna , I have not stayed but appears to be a decent family hotel and the location of the swim start and transition.

Murphy Reinschreiber is the race director , so I would not wonder whether they have their act together or not.

I would suggest calling them. I am quite surprised you are not getting email responses though.

Good luck and may see you there

Thanks everyone for all of your help, I’m going to try again and hopefully sign up this week. One more question set of questions - Since travelling with 2 bikes is such a pain, we were planning on just flying to Bangkok and then directly to Phuket and staying at the hotel there for 10 days or so. Do you guys have any suggestions about other places in Thailand to visit as an alternative to the whole vacation in Phuket? Part of me is really happy getting where I have to be and relaxing / seeing stuff in Phuket, and part of me thinks if we are going all the way to Thailand, we should see everything we can. Any suggestions? Stuff you guys have done or seen in the past? Stuff to do in Phuket? Again, thanks so much everyone for all of your help.

I am looking to stay close to the Best Western Bangtao. Any guess on how far this is from the race hotel? What is the quality of the roads? Could I ride my bike or will I most likely be splattered by cars? Any information would be most appreciated.

Jon, I would recommend trying to get a room at Allamanda or the Sheraton. We tried the Dusit last year and had to switch to the Allamanda after arriving because there simply wasn’t enough space for two people and their bikes. The Dusit was very nice and maybe they had sold out of their larger rooms, but it didn’t work for us. Another option, that started last year, is checking for empty rooms at the Laguna Phuket Holiday Club. It is across the street from Allamanda and provides nice junior suite size rooms. Have fun in Phuket.

Too late! But thanks for the advice. I’m sure we will have a great time anyway.
