OK, Dr. Slowtwitch: My achilles tendons (both of them) have ached during and after running for a couple of months now. At first it was fairly negligible, but recently it has gotten worse. Yesterday, I did the 5430 Long Course, and it really bothered me during and after the race. Then, this morning (through this afternoon) I was seriously hobbling from the tightness and pain. I’ve read (and my coach tells me) that this is a form of tendonitis and I need to take a break from running to allow it to heal. And, also, I should see a sports medecine doctor for treatment/PT.
Anyone dealt with this before? I was originally planning on taking the running break in October when racing season was over, but after yesterday I may be moving this up. Any thoughts on just taking a break from running, rather than a break from biking, also? I can’t imagine that swimming would pose a problem…
Thanks!
Seth
