So it seems that I’ve put some hurt into my left Achilles tendon. It hurts when I point my foot - like when you try to straighten it out for swimming or if you stand up on your toes and really straighten out your foot.
The pain isn’t all that great and it doesn’t really keep me from training - neither running nor biking. (I haven’t swam in a while so I’m not sure if it will affect my sparse kicking). After a ride or a run it’s usually a little more tender than normal, but nothing that keeps me from going about my day to day. I do notice it when walking down stairs, though, especially after my morning bike ride.
I’m icing it and taking some Ibuprofen but neither seem to be helping to remedy the problem - they both work only as temporary fixes.
The problem started initially back in December and after a three week layoff from training due to illness (and long-staying guests!) it seems to be back.
What I’m wondering is if there may be some stretches or any other magic cures. Rest, though likely the best cure, is not an option with Ralph’s only two months away. I know that I shouldn’t be shortsighted and could back out of Ralph’s instead of injuring myself, but it’s not quite that bad. If it does progress to that point I’m willing to entertain that option, so please, don’t jump on me about that.
I had the same problem in the fall . I hope things get better for you . I used ice after every run or ride even if it felt good. I did the stretch thing and am still dooing it. I changed running shoes to. I think it was I train off road and raced a 10k on a hard surface in not so good shoes. It is much better now with no pain. For some it takes a long time to heal.
Good luck

PS The days are getting longer !
As an athlete, I’ll tell you there’s nothing worse than being injured and unable to perform at your best. As an athlete who has had a tremendous amount of lower legs maladies I can offer this advice, take time off to heal. Seek a certified and recommended sports medicine professional and get proper treatment. This forum is a great way to exchange views and opinions, but it should not replace sound medical treatment from a trained clinician or physical therapist. My own bravado and disregard set my achillies off big-time to the tune of a stress fractue in my tibia, an avulsion of the maleous, not to mention a swollen and inflamed tendon and sheath. I almost ruptured the tendon and the pain was incredible. So, please…get help.
There a definitely several things you can do to actively participate in your achilles recovery. There was a thread on this topic back in September. It was quite thorough, so I saved the link. Try this:
