Accurate running app for iPhone?

Is there an accurate running application to use with the iPhone? I’ve tried miCoach but it doesn’t give the pace per mile after each mile. Instead if picks some point in time and claims that’s the pace. Last week I switched to RunKeeper but its average pace that it calls out after each mile doesn’t seem to match with the pace shown when the run is complete and I’m reviewing the splits. Yesterday I noticed my first two miles were pretty close to the audio callout pace but mile 3 was off by 12 seconds. Given that I’m trying to hold a certain pace through my whole run, I don’t want to ease up halfway through only to review the run at the end and find out that I was actually slower than RunKeeper reported during the run.

Runkeeper works great for me. I have used it alongside my Garmin 305 and have not noticed a difference.

BTW, accuracy is dependent on your GPS and not so much the app. My iphone 3gs was not as accurate as my Iphone 4 when it came to pace/distance etc. though the 3gs was still fine for running.

I can help diagnose but feel free to ask me any questions…

Are you looking for the lap pace, with the lap being the mile you are running (or just ran) or are you looking for average pace of the entire workout? It sounds like you might be getting these confused.

Many of the Apps have different labels for different types of data, which also add to the confusion.

I suspect that the App is accurate but you are using the wrong data fields. The GPS in phones tend to be very accurate when paired with cell tower data, often putting the accuracy of a GPS watch in question.

If you don’t like runkeeper, you can try the Wahoo App (ours), Runmeter, Endomondo or Runtastic. All have pretty slick interfaces for running.

Hope this helps.

If you are Garmin user, have you looked at the Garmin Fit app?

You have to purchase an ANT+ thing for your iPhone but then it will link your phone with your foot pod for indoor use and satellites for outside. It will also pair with your cadence sensor and power meter on the bike.

So if at the end of a run my Garmin says about 9.05 & my phone says about 9.45 I should stick with the phone’s number? Not a huge deal since I’m not winning any races anytime soon, just a curiousity of which might be closer to more accurate…

I am also wondering about the difference between my iphone and my garmin watch?
