So it is on LSD inner lanes… If you have a flat where do you change the tires? Some sections of the road has no space or emergency lane and divided with a wall fron the other side.
Not planning to have a flat but trying to get ready for the worst case scenario…

Don’t bring your flat change kit to Accenture…its too dangerous. There are 7000 competitors, and it wouldn’t be safe. In the pre-race talk in past years they have said that if you stop on the bike course then you will be brought in.
Yeah, it says on the web page too that you will be taken off the race by a van. So my other question… is this legal by USAT rules??? I mean if you have a flat, you are out???
Yes, if you have a flat you are out of the race. It’s very crowded it’s just too dangerous on that course to take up space changing a tube. Don’t worry though the roads are pretty nice! Have fun and good luck.
and i’d recommend 23mm tires at least. more than just shoddy road conditions, the noobies often don’t secure their pumps, tires, food, tool kits, kitchen sinks, etc to their bikes and they end up all over the road. more robust tires will help reduce the probability of a flat.
get ready to spend more time dodging noobie gear than potholes.

I agree with this!!! this is one of the main reasons I ended up not doing this race anymore. It’s just a silly stupid race to do if you’re halfway competitive.
People riding side by side talking about their boyfriends and new apartments during the race just really ticks me off.
why would ANYONE want to be the biggest triathlon in the world? dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb.
There is about a 1ft little area on the side where you can change the tire. There are also some big flower boxes along the way that people sometimes hop up into to change a flat. At a couple of points there is a median strip that you can get on. I don’t know what the rules say about stopping but I do know people who have changed tires during the race.
Yes, if your 50 years or older and want to do the sprint you get to go off in the first wave. I guess they are worried about us old folk running in the heat.
Sounds like you had a bad experience with this race. You can’t judge a race that has 8000 people (and boasts this) by standards of a race that has 400 people. You know there are that many people, plain and simple. I think your sentiments and those who share them are why they added an elite amateur wave this year that goes off before the course gets clogged up.
I thought the race was well organized. As someone said in this thread you can’t go to a tri that boasts 7K+ (sprint & Oly combined) participants in a single day and expect to have the course to yourself. If you went to the race talk the facilitator gave a good heads up of what to expect.
The wave starts were good (the later you were the better unless you were just before the pros like I was). There were bottles on the ground especially near drop areas but you have to be aware of that at most races. LSD is pretty smooth until you get closer to Foster starting around the Irving Pk exit then it gets a little lumpy. No reason to get out of the aerobars though. There WAS confusion about the side to execute a pass, typically at USAT races it’s on the left, last year its was on the right. So people were definitely getting passed on both sides. This was mentioned in the prerace talk and I think a lot of folks missed that. Nice expo. Run course was well staffed, and the time tracking features were on point. Post race food was some of the best that I have had at a race. Man, who was that caterer!?
Now the weather can be unpredictable so if it snows then bitch away.

Ive change flats there before, there should be shoulder on the inside of the course.
