Accelerade question

Question for those of you who actually drink the stuff…

I never liked the mix…the drink always seemed “milky”, or somewhat opaque, kind of thick tasting, and a little bitter. However, while at the Accelerade stand at the ACSM conference, the samples were crystal clear, ice cold, and didn’t taste half bad. I didn’t get to talk to a rep or anything, but I figured it was a new formula.

Got a sample cannister for free recently, and it was taking up closet space until I ran out of my usual beverage. I figured I’d try it again. Still kind of milky, bitter, and gross, no matter how I mix it up.

Is there some sort of secret here that I am not privy to? Does in need to go in a freaking erlenmeyer and mix for a month or what?

Thanks,

Phil

I’ve never seen it come out clear. It always looks mikly and has that protein powder taste. It’s certainley not one of my favorites, but I have a whole freaking tub of it and I’m cheap…so down the hatchet it goes.

They’re selling it premixed in the US now so it may have been that stuff. Like gatorade from powder is never quite the same as the bottled stuff but a hundred times worse with accelerade as that stuff just will not dissolve.

I got a pre-mixed Accelerade, grapefruit. The taste was really good, but did have an aftertaste, not sure if it was the chalky protein powder or the bitterness of grapefruit - I will probably buy some, it wasn’t half bad. Moreover, it didn’t make me burp like Gatorade!

Probably the premix. Thanks.

THe only way I have ever been able to put that stuff down is when its ice cold. f its warm or lukewarm, forget about it.

I used to mix up my own cheapo version. Orange flavor Gatorade powder with a scoop of Trader Joe’s Vanilla Whey protein powder. Worked out to be the same 4:1 ratio of carbs to protein. Tastes like a 50/50 bar  Punch flavor Gatorade with the vanilla powder wasn’t too bad either…

I don’t bother with that anymore and just use Powerbar Endurance since it’s just as cheap and I’ve never really noticed much advantage to the protein being added. In fact, it seemed to make me more likely to have “gastric issues”…

Just my 2 pesos.

Oh yeah…the cheapo version was “milky” too

i mix it in the blender not quite clear but dont get the milky mix
.

Is there anything new about Accelerade, other than the pre-mix? They changed the packaging, and they don’t seem to sell Endurox on their site anymore (maybe I’m just missing the link or something). It seems like the formula is still the same, but maybe “new and improved?”

Ah the old Accelerade mis issue. I finally figured out the best way to get it mixed well:

  1. Add half a glass of warm/hot water from the tap or 'nuke water about 22 seconds.

  2. Add about 1/4 of the mix while stirring.

  3. Add cold water but don’t fill the class.

  4. Add more mix but use less mix than number of scoops per amount of water by 1/4. (If your mix calls for a full scoop, use 1/4 less)

  5. Mix away until less cloudy and chunky.

  6. Add ice (this is why you saved some room in the glass)

My wife has this down to a science. I watched her one day trying to figure out why my mix was chunky and nasty but hers was like a pre-made mix.

Hope this helps.

By the way, she was born and rased in Atlanta, GA and told me this is how all southern folks make sweet tea if they are in a hurry. Heat helps.

Tried the Accelerade thing several times and hated the globs of undissolved residue. The taste reminded me of a lollipop (;-(

I use an 5:1 mixture of cho/pro with various Cytomax brand products. Dissolves completely and tastes better than a lollipop.

ice is definitely key. without it, its almost undrinkable, with it, very nice. and i will swear by its benefits for post-brick recoveries.
