With all the talk here about the pros and cons of strength training/weight lifting, there does seem to be some universal agreement that “core” work is important. So, my question is, how often do you/should I include abs in my weekly program?
At present I’m in the gym 2x/week mostly doing leg, ab, lower back stations. Occasionally I’ll leave out the ab work in favor of more upper body, but on those days I will do 30min of Abs/lower back at home that night. I also have a “core” work out that includes abs, supermans, and push-ups, which I do as it’s own thing a couple times a week. I end up having 3-4 work outs each week that involve abs/lower back.
I don’t know how often you should do core work but I work mine about 5 days/week. I find that a strong core makes all my activities much more enjoyable. My routine only takes about 30 minutes/evening so it’s pretty simple.
I work my core 2-3 times per week. I have a routine that works the abs, obliques, back, etc, and also includes pushups. Takes me about 45 minutes. I did it this morning for the first time since a week before IMFL. Now I’m sore! I got most of the exercises when I was in physical therapy for a bad back when I was in high school. They have definitely stood the test of time.
