About Your Triathlon Club's Bike Sponsor

Question for those affiliated with a triathlon club that has a sponsorship relationship with a local bike shop (perhaps the name of the shop is on your club’s tri-suit and other gear). **How much of a discount are you receiving from the shop **(e.g., percentage off bikes, discount for labor, discount for other merchandise purchased at the store, etc.)? I’m just curious, thanks.

I’ll start

Up to (but no more than) 10% off bikes (depending on the manufacturer)Zero discount for labor10% off other merchandise
BTW, our club has about 50 members.

20% off merchandise (including bikes) that has a MSRP of less than $1000 (Garmin and Oakley excluded)
special team pricing of the LBS logo’d clothing (at cost, typically 40 to 50% off)
no discount on labor although LBS offers free labor if you buy the bike from them.
special brand sponsor pricing from certain manufacturers with timeline conditions (i.e. have to order by a certain date, usually in the Spring). special pricing is typically 30% off bikes and equipment.

15% off part/merchandise I believe, no discount for labor. I haven’t used our clubs LBS for fitting so I don’t know if they offer a discount on fitting, I’m thinking no on that one.

Club size is in the neighborhood of 110-120.

The discount I get through my coach is better than what I get through my club. My coach & club are affiliated with two different LBS.

Through my coach I get 10% off everything in his affiliated LBS (no exceptions) and 10% off MAP pricing (not MSRP) on bikes. I’m pretty sure the discount applies to labor & maintenance as well, but I haven’t used that yet.

Through my tri club I get 10% off most things in the store except bikes at our affiliated LBS. Bikes prices are as listed. They have been known to work with members on new bike purchases, but you need to brush up on your negotiation chops.

My tri club does a really good job of negotiating discounts at other businesses though, so the LBS isn’t the end of the road for us. For example, we have a 15% discount off everything at a local running store & they confirmed that Garmin is included (even the new 920).

My LBS gives me 15% off retail on everything. Bikes included. BUT he is not a tri club sponsor. Just a good guy.

My tri club gives us 15% (I think) at our LBS, and we get bigger discounts off bulk order GU, etc. Xterra wetsuits gives “discounts” as well, but I don’t think they’re heavier than what goes out every quarter or so for them.

I don’t know about bike discounts, but I think it’s about 15%. Not sure, though.

10% off on parts is standard for my club but even that really isn’t a discount when I can go to another store (brick and mortar) and get it faster and cheaper. (ie.Tree Fort Bikes, Performance Bike)

Bikes normally aren’t under the discount policy.
I really don’t know about labor since I work on my own stuff.

15%-25% through various bike stores in the region through provincial affiliation. I prefer that over a single store discounts through a local club.

But in the end, my preferred LBS has no discounts (although I can usually haggle me a 10% discount from the owner) - I just go there because they have the best service for me.

5% off bikes 10% of everything else
