Hello!
I’m about to start waxing the chains of my 3 bikes. Before I install the waxed chains, I will properly clean the drivetrain (cassette, chainrings, etc.). Should I lube them after cleaning? Or should I just dry everything and re-install the chain?
Thanks!
Dry everything and re-install the chain. No benefit to lubing the casette and chainrings, although lubing and properly torquing chainring bolts is always good
Agree with above. The only thing I would caution is whether you ride in a wet climate or not. I went to wax last year but there’s no downside for me. I live in a very dry climate so I only wax twice a year, which for me, is about every 1000 miles.
If you’re in a wetter environment, you will have to wax a lot more often.
Just dry and install. You do need to lube pulley bearings/bushings (unless they are sealed) and derailleur pivots (as per usual), but nothing should be on the chain/gear teeth except wax.
Personally, I strip/wax a new chain and then use the liquid drip wax (Squirt, Silca, etc.) to reup the lube as necessary.
