It’s worth it just to avoid the DMV in CA for those rare occasions when you have to get it done in person.
This and to get passport photos at no additional charge like I did today.
AAA has saved my bacon over the years! In fact, the oldest called last night from Charlotte, where he attends UNCC, to tell us he has a flat tire while at his job. He wanted to know if he should call AAA for flat assistance. Given the fact that he would have to drive back to school through Uptown, that was a no-brainer to me. This is one reason why I have the Family Plus membership.
Get it. Cheap. Like $28 a year.
I ran out of gas once
I needed a tow multiple times
I had a battery jumped before
In fairness, I also own 11 work trucks, so there is always something going on.
Plus, girlfriend is on my membership, so it’s good piece of mind knowing she has help if I am not around.
AMA in Alberta charges an extra $40 for new members requiring immediate roadside assistance (towing, fuel delivery, tire change, boosts, winching and locksmithing). But you have to buy the full year at once (monthly plans not available) and you only receive basic service regardless of the plan purchased.
So in other words, you can buy the membership when you require it. Not before.
Regardless, I should probably buy a membership as I drive a 13 yo car and occasionally a 42 yo motorcycle.
We are doing a 14 hour drive this summer to a pretty remote location for a rafting trip. Then leaving my husband to dirtbike with some friends and doing the drive back alone with child. The truck will be pretty loaded with raft, frame, coolers etc.
The last time we did a similar but less remote trip the newly installed transmission crapped out and it was rough.
We have a 2 yo truck now so in way better shape.
Should I get AAA so I’m not worried about a problem?
The area is remote but I’m renting a sat phone for the trip. I also am paying a service to drive the truck 10 hours while we are rafting from the top of the river to where we are finishing- not sure how another driver qualifies if I have coverage.
So, what are your experiences with AAA? Worth it for long trips?
I have CAA, the CDN equivalent and I wouldn’t travel without it. One of these things you question until you need it. It’s saved my ass a few times.
There are a bunch of reasons to get it. Towing, dead battery and discounts. I have used the tow feature one and the wife has used it a couple times when she has locked herself out of the house. He gets her in the car so she can use the garage door opener. Last time the guy said “hey I was here before “. So now she is a regular.
