A week to train as much as I want...need help getting the most from it

Next week I will be on vacation with my extended family on North Carolina’s Outer Banks. I have an 8 week old son who has taken up most of my time since his birth (no complaints whatsoever) and with extra hands to help with him, I want to get in as much training as possible. Essentially I plan on making this week a mini training camp, but don’t really know where to start.

Prior to his birth, I was putting in about 9 hours of training a week. Since then, I have been lucky to get in 4.5 hours, with most weeks realistically coming in at 3.5 hours or so. What has suffered the most have been my long runs and rides; once there is a consistent sleep pattern I will be doing these workouts before the family wakes up.

So, how do I make this training week as beneficial as possible while avoiding injury? I will not have access to a pool to swim, but theoretically can bike and run as much as I would like.

Run for 45 minutes every day, super early in the morning. Spend the rest of the time relaxing with your young family and enjoying your son and the Outer Banks.

x2. If your current base is around 4.5 hours of training per week, it’s not likely your body would respond well to doing a massive 15+ hour training week. So I’d say get in 45-90 minutes of training each day, relax with your family, and get lots of sleep that you have likely been missing out on. The sleep will likely help you just as much if not more than a big training week, and 10 years from now, I highly doubt you will be looking back at how great this training week was…rather than how great it was relaxing and enjoying your vacation.
