Yesterday in the pool I noticed a little flap of skin hanging off the bottom of my big toe, which made pushing off from the wall only mildly painful - but the flapping was annoying the hell out of me. Unfortunately when I looked at it, I saw that it went deep - so I couldn’t just cut it off. Not having any tape with me, I went off to the drug store to see what newfangled devices they had for such things (I still had a run to do, after all).
I picked up some “New Skin”, which is more or less the same as all the other liquid band-aids, except this one does not have a catalyst agent. My assumption is that the ones with the agent (such as the brand name "Liquid band-Aid) dry faster, while this one takes a good while longer to cure.
It worked really well! The flap stayed down and I was able to do my run without even thinking about it at all. As a matter of fact, it held until 4/5 of the way through this evening’s swim - not bad!
So here I was all ready to sing the praises of this new generation of liquid band-aids, when it dawned on me to ask: What’s the difference between these things and crazy glue/epoxy? It does dry kind of flexible, but I’ve never tried applying a super-thin layer of any of those other glues to see what it was like.
Is $12.95 for 40 drops of (brand name) Liquid band-Aid plus the special activation q-tips just a bazillion precent markup over regular epoxy, only packaged and marketed nicely? Or are they actually different proucts? (For the record, my stuff cost $5 and came with a little applicator brush - I consider that a fair price for what it is/does)
