Friday night I head to the shore. Although it is about 86 degrees inland, it is about 70 right on the boardwalk. There is also a strong incessant blowing wind right in my face as I head out on the boardwalk (very typical for this time of year). I go out to do an hour run, with some pick-ups. I feel very strong on my first pick-up, probably running 7:00/mile into the wind (no good distance markers so I couldn’t say exactly). I thought this might be interesting coming back. Sure enough coming back with the wind, I felt great. Every time I reached back for some more speed on my pick-ups, it was there. I was probably down to close to 5:00-5:15 a mile in half mile intervals.
Saturday was a 1/2 hour run after a long bike ride. Sunday was going to be my long run - 12 miles. Well the wind switched by then. It was hot, humid, and the boardwalk offered almost no relief from the sun. I think I started around 9:30/mile, and crawled back around 10:00-10:30/mile. I think my running is coming along good, but I do need to occasionally train smarter.
